Anne Hathaway is Selina Kyle, Tom Hardy is Bane in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

It’s official folks! Warner Bros. issued a press release just moments ago, confirming that Anne Hathaway will be playing Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman), and Tom Hardy will be playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

BURBANK, CA, January 19, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Christopher Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

What do you guys think about this casting news? Let me know in the comments!

  • http://twitter.com/SHotMBlog SuperherooftheMonth

I think this is awesome. I would have preferred Eva Green over Hathaway, but I think she’ll do a fine job. And I LOVE that Hardy is Bane. That character got a cheap shot from B&R (well, that whole “film” was a cheap shot) so it will be nice to see the character get a proper story.

I have a feeling Nolan’s going to do it again. :) This casting news is AWESOME.

  • Nicohajduk

hardy is too fuckin SHORT to play bane!!

    • http://twitter.com/SHotMBlog SuperherooftheMonth

And Ledger was too much of a “pretty boy” to play the Joker. Remember how that turned out?

      • Collin V.

        That turned out into a posthumous, 29 award-winning role. R.I.P. Ledger :(

    • torpedo

      thats what i said lol

    • darthknight666

Bane IS short AND thin!!! Thats the whole point! He only gets Big and Muscular when the venom gets injected into him.

      • Thepaperbag000

no… he’s really freakin fit even without the venom being injected into him.

  • Bryanbreguet

I really wonder how Nolan will portrait Bane in a realistic settings. I’m surprised by this choice and from what I’ve read about the characters, I was much more excited about Hugo Strange and Talia As Gul. But hey, we’ll see.

    • http://twitter.com/SHotMBlog SuperherooftheMonth

People wondered the same thing with Heath Ledger and the Joker, and look what we got.

    • Moisehuchard

same here, i thought Hugo Strange would have been an excellent choice. And i never thought bane was an interesting foe

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FZRGDFVYTLUAEVW2YLN4MJB2BU Aaron

oh u guys need to read up on your Bane…oh do you…

  • Nicohajduk

    nolan is loosing his “credibility”

    • http://twitter.com/SHotMBlog SuperherooftheMonth

      How?

  • Karloshuddos

Great news! Didn’t expect it to be within 2 days of the Hero complex tweet though!

  • Nicohajduk

dont get me wrong, hardy is an extremly talented actor but HOW THE F**K can a 5.9 person portray an character who’s atleast 6.6??????? that doesnt make sense!! bane is an intellectual AND physical giant

    • http://twitter.com/SHotMBlog SuperherooftheMonth

That’s what I mean. I’m sure Nolan’s interpretation will make sense. People got pissed because the Joker looked like a “slasher” villain in the first image released. People were pissed because Hugh Jackman is 6′ tall and Wolverine is “supposed” to be like 5′-3″. To be exceptionally corny and quote a wise Jedi Master, “Size matters not.” ;)

  • Fribledib

this was a LONG time coming for me.

    Excellent choices, characters and actors!

  • Nicohajduk

hardy playin bane would be same like michael duncan clarke playin the penguin lol

    • http://twitter.com/SHotMBlog SuperherooftheMonth

      Whatever.

  • Thebatmatt21

Catwoman is great news, but Bane? Really? We only get one more chance to see Nolanized villains and half of that chance is getting wasted on Bane. Garbage. Im calling it, The Dark Knight Rises is the new Spiderman 3. You heard it first here, folks.

    • Lee

We heard it first from you? doubt it. bane is one of batman’s most intelligent and physically capable villains. we just have a bad taste in our mouth of bane ever since Shumacher’s horrible vision of the character

      • Roob

yeah that is true, that movie completely ruined my vision of bane. but still, Strange would have been an excellent enemy

    • DarkKnightrunner

      You’re a dumbass.

    • Dacenar

LOL Wow you’re a real fortune teller. You just predicted something that has a 50%/50% shot either good or bad. And because of the inclusion of Bane you are calling it a dud already! LOL Don’t be so sure about it. Remember The Dark Knight was Great! It will be so very hard to top it. You know so many people will sound off they didn’t like it…but remember this movie may surprise you. Bane can be an awesome villian…it’s not the villian it’s what they do with it. Nolan has an overall plan we know nothing about. But number 3s are the dud in a series usually. So I’ll give you 40%/60%.

  • Nicohajduk

lets see if hathaway will show her boobs in this movie, there arent much movies with her where she didnt showed her tits lol

    • Markamayo

      god I hope so

  • Nicohajduk

yeah and kitty is much more “realistic” than bane??? lol whatever

  • http://twitter.com/SHotMBlog SuperherooftheMonth

Another positive of this is that it should debunk those “leaked script” rumors!

  • Mlm

    STOP WHINING!

Just chill and enjoy the build up.

Bane is a great enemy, the only enemy to break Batman physically. As long as Hardy is spending the next few months getting pumped I’ll be happpy.

  • RustyKoi

Catwoman! YES! I really can’t express how happy I am that Nolan’s doing these characters – they deserve, NEED, to be done by him.

  • Nicohajduk

@Mlm hardy is one head shorter than bale..cant imagine him breakin bale unless he does use the mike tyson- peek-a boo style lol

  • Jayceon

Why? It’s been done before and these characters are so boring. Had a great start and gonna flop to end it.

    • MDGL

2 reasons. 1) ‘Done Before’ should never be an excuse to not use the material provided to you if you have any degree of imagination, because that’s only going to limit options for no substantial benefit. 2) Old saying goes ‘There are no small parts, just small actors” applies here. What you have seen before was just shoe-horned characters, half-fast approaches, and some guy in a gimp suit.

I never understood the fan-base’s need to shoot everything down, especially given who we’re talking about, Nolan, who managed to turn the entire Batman film series on it’s head and get not only a decent film, but a quality movie-goer’s expirence.

Let’s think about this for a minute. We have a character who for once is physically able to break the Bat, and is smart enough not to just go charging head-long like some stampeding bull. You’re also seeing escalation in Nolan’s Gotham which was a question asked in the first film.

What I would instead ask you is, what would it take for this to work? Is there a specific character arch you want Batman to go through? Does Bane have to be writen off as a static obsticle, or is this a chance to make the character more than his previous movie adaptation?

But then again, I guess it’s easier to just write off the movie as a whole rather than discuss any possibilities or directions Nolan can go with his choices.

    • Batfan

You are an ignorant fool. Please refrain from posting your opinions.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FZRGDFVYTLUAEVW2YLN4MJB2BU Aaron

        ha-Troll!!!

      • http://twitter.com/Corporal_Nosaj Nosaj Illerrob

no offense, but that was uncalled for, he actually spoke to you in a normal mature manor, you have been closed minded to any idea of this film simple because you don’t like the casting.
TRUTHFULLY, I don’t like the casting either. BUT Nolan, has done some Amazing things with the past films. Why not instead of argue how horrible casting was, discus what it would take to make it a decent film. You do realize, from video games to movies, they take ideas from common widely known blogs.like this, and by “they” I mean people who work for Nolan to help field Ideas.
        That is Known FACT..
So lets actually talk about this, Because honestly I do not like the casting, I do not understand who the character Bane is gonna work or fit into the realistic aspect of Nolans Gotham world.

  • Nicohajduk

hardys bane is going to be much shorter than alfred(caine) and fox(freeman)?? yeah what a MENACE LOOOL

    • AndersCules

What? Have you seen in Bronson!? He was one bad ass m’therf’cker! No doubt in my mind he can pull this off!

    • DarkKnighrunner

Could you be any more of an idiot? Fan boys = the most unimaginative people on the entire planet.

  • Rachael

    Beyond disappointed.

  • Simmonscorpllc

TO THE FANBOYS: Please realize that Nolan’s casts are picked based on acting ability. Not height, nor direct resemblance to the character or even how “hot” they are. Please be excited someone is making a Batman movie with interesting choices for villains. Camera trickery, production, and makeup can affect so many things in a film, but they don’t affect the raw acting. Stop being miserable.
    Love, Regular Fans

    • http://twitter.com/SHotMBlog SuperherooftheMonth

Finally, some common sense. Seriously, no one has seen an ounce of film and already it’s a pissfest.

  • Keith_v

I was hoping that Hardy was gonna play Bane, but didn’t think it would really happen. I can’t think of a time I was more excited for a movie.

  • Nicohajduk

@SuperheroOf theMonth let me tell u somethin’:size DOES matter!!!! if your girl(or maybe a boy;) tells u that size doesnt matter then you’ve got a “little” problem;)

  • Rossjg

Exciting news. A nonconformist choice, to be sure. I don’t know how these press releases work – what’s the chance of a plot synopsis?

    • http://batman-news.com Batman-News.com

We didn’t get an official plot synopsis for The Dark Knight until April 2008. It might be a while before we get something “official” but I’m sure things will leak out.

      • Nolan_fan

I’m on pins and needles all the time!! I need more info all the time, more importantly I just need the movie to come out already!! i can’t wait!

  • Manoschaos

    I just came

  • Bastian Starkmann

Haha some of you are freaks, Christopher Nolan is a genius, Inception, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and you are questioning him?! Haha Christopher Nolan is the man with the plan, and if anyone is going to make an end all be all Batman trilogy, I can think of no one better. His character choices will be perfect in a year when we see the movie for the first time. Have faith and stop bitching. The Dark Knight Rises will be epic.

    • Manoschaos

      Amen brother.
I can’t wait for Bruce to stand before his parent’s graves in his rebuilt mansion while gazing at the night sky.
Bane is a perfect villain, he’s gonna enforce the terrorist actions that started with Joker and Catwoman will make the dark knight “rise”. Just kidding on the latter.

      • http://twitter.com/SHotMBlog SuperherooftheMonth

Hear, hear. Christopher Nolan is the guy that made Christopher Priest sit on the edge of his seat, wondering how the adaptation of his novel, The Prestige, would end!

    • Stephenpbell

      Godfather.
      Godfather 2.
      Godfather…3

  • TheDarkestKnight

For those who are complaining that Hardy is too small for this part, think of this: Rocky III, Hogan played a GIANT compared to Stallone. Hogan is only a few inches taller than him but thanks to movie magic, they made him into an Andre the Giant figure. My point: trust Nolan. He did a brilliant job with Batman Begins and he definitely exceeded our expectations in The Dark Knight. I seriously can’t wait for July 20, 2012.

  • Roob

Whats wrong with Hugo Strange?! That would have been an excellent choice!

  • bradley

I don’t know about everybody else, but the first thing that comes to my mind is Anne Hathaway in the Catwoman costume.

  • Nicohajduk

@TheDumbestKnight get the fuck outta here, youre talkin out of your CLUELESS ass!! hogan was EASILY 6’6 in his so called prime! stallone was always just a lil guido dwarf

  • Collin V.

I’m amazed with what Nolan did with Joker, I can’t wait to see what he does with Bane.

  • Batfan

I’m way too fucking excited about this news! TDKR is going to be special

  • Dknight007

Surprised Anne won the role over the others, but I she has the talent and the looks and obviously Nolan was impressed with her readings and screentests over the other actress’s to cast her. She will do a bang up job…no doubt. I wonder who will be cast in the other female role? Knightley or Watts as Talia? Hmm…

Hardy as Bane will epic and bad ass as well!

  • AndersCules

Bane will break Batman. That is pretty much how the trilogy will end, with Batman in coffin. Maybe two.

  • Ingrid

I trust and love Nolan, he’s my favourite director. But Hathaway as Catwoman?

I just, I…. I’m worried honestly. Hathaway just doesn’t compare to the big league actors, nor pulls of the sexy femme fatale of Selina Kyle. And I can’t imagine her next to Christan Bale…. as a couple. I worry she may come off like Katie Holmes in Batman Begins, I always thought that was a questionable casting choice. And here I feel it again.

Bane can be done, thought I was getting used to Hugo Strange.

  • Bazman05

It’s a real shame the “campy” Catwoman is included. It works in a “campy” setting such as Batman Returns but apart from that has never worked as is really just pathetic in terms of Nolan’s Batman. The “Fanboys” who are drooling at this choice of villain, wake up morons.

    • sTACY

Hey, why don’t you at least wait for a Fucking trailer before you whine and complain like a little bitch.

  • GuanoMan

It is hysterical to watch people say “BUT HUGO STRANGE WAS SUCH A GOOD IDEA” like Nolan had ever pitched the idea or was on fan forums day in and day out.
So is the growing division on this website between “fanboys” and “non-fanboys.”
The truth is, there is no way of knowing whether or not this film will be amazing. However, based on on Nolan’s past work and the time he seems to have put into writing and casting (as well as screen testing) this film, it should be another great addition to the series.
I definitely was not expecting these choices, but the surprise is delightful. This is a classic Nolan move where he throws a total curve ball and every single Batman fan freaks out until a trailer is released or even until the film itself is released.
Basically, my reluctance to believe this decision is the best seems to be what indicates Nolan is going to blow us all away, a third time.
And for the record, Tom Hardy is a brilliant actor. There is no doubt his performance as Bane, a character whose image was tainted by a horrible film, will be terrific. There is lots of new ground to cover with these characters. It’s a complete new start for them.
    I’m all in.

  • One-eyed Willie

I´m so… frustrated! I don´t like Bane, I think he´s nothing more than just an “ok” villain… Dudes, just look at the Bat´s rogues gallery! I even think isn´t fair to compare Heath´s performance with this because the Joker character aways been fantastic… wich would help any other actor to portray him. And Selina… it´s just ok too! Maybe she´ll surprise in a different way… Let´s see! I feel a bit dissapointed… well, at least I can tell for sure: IN NOLAN I TRUST

  • M6000

Yes Hathaway is in now all we need is Beil and this movie will really have some sexy females

  • Rml227

    This news made my day!

  • Mel-Phleg

Watch this youtube video of Anne as a secret agent facing a man who is actually the size of Bane in the comic books:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ak82_dDMwE&feature=related

I think she’ll do fine, but I envisioned someone like Alexander Skarsgard as Bane (with him being 6’4 and all, plus a fine actor). Nolan is really reinterpreting the character with Hardy.

  • Guest

Wow wow wow!!! Stop the presses! Nolan throws a curveball yet again! NOBODY was expecting Hardy as Bane, just like NOBODY expected Ledger as the Joker. You heard it here on this site first fellow Batman fans, if there was EVER a way to come close to Ledger’s performance as the Joker, Hardy playing Bane is it. Sheer genius on the part of Nolan! Hardy playing a cop would have been lame, and playing Strange would have been mediocre. Bane is one of the most bad ass Batman villains of all time. He’s super bad-ass in the comics, he’s just never been portrayed properly on screen.

Oh and I’m the same guy who mentioned in the other thread Jett sucks. You want to know why Jett sucks? For MANY months now Jett claimed that his “connections” were telling him it was a good bet Strange would be in the movie, and more recently the “word” from his “sources” were saying Talia would be in the film. Looks like Jett was WRONG on BOTH accounts. Jett got fed misinformation from his “sources”, plain and simple. Other people did as well, but other people did not boast anywhere near as much as Jett.

Also you KNEW Catwoman HAD to be in this film, and Nolan did NOT disappoint. Looks-wise, I think Hathaway is almost perfect for the role. The only other actress I would have considered for the role looks-wise would be Eva Green. Hathaway getting the role is a bit of a curveball, but I think she will do good.

Like I said though, you heard it here first on this site, Hardy’s performance as Bane will go down as being legendary and after the film comes out will be compared to Ledger’s performance as the Joker as well as Nicholson’s performance as the Joker.

    • One-eyed Willie

Don´t forget the joker is a marvelous, brilliant, fantastic character… Heath´s done so well ´cause the character helped a lot. And Bane? Bane is a good character, just it – good. Not a brilliant one.

      • Guest

The Joker has decades of stories and history. Bane is a relatively newer character with less comic history. There is LOTS of room for development and interpretation of Bane. Who’s to say Nolan and Hardy won’t come up with a brilliant interpretation of the Bane character?

  • Nicohajduk

im glad we won’t see the AWFUL actress called jessica biel in this movie…

  • Stonewolf

Thrilled about Anne. She just has this I’m innocent but will rock you in the sack appeal to her.

    Not thrilled with Bane.

  • Xavier

Anne Hathaway for Catwoman= Hotness Overload

No Talia and Jessica Biel + Catwoman and Hardy as Bane = GREAT news!!!

  • Marvel1ous

Great casting once again by nolan. I was sure Bane was gonna be in this and Hardy is awesome.
I wouldnt be suprised also if another character is used on the side like the penguin as a new mob boss. Probably with a lesser known actor.

  • http://twitter.com/SHotMBlog SuperherooftheMonth

Anyone saying this is going to “suck”: Look at Nolan’s track record: On Rotten Tomatoes, his lowest rated film, The Prestige, is at 75%, and his highest, TDK, is at 94%. Does TDKR have a lot to live up to? Of course, but Nolan’s not had, critically, a “bad” film yet. He’s proven over and over that he knows what he’s doing. Give him the benefit of the doubt.

  • Carnom

Noooo!!! Catwoman Noooo!!!… thats one hell of a boring character… bad choice.

Bane will be one f*cking good villain… but I was more exited with the idea of Dr. Hugo Strange.
I’m tired of the same villains all the time.

So far I dont believe this movie is going to be better than BB or TDK

  • just a random guy

Three things for the ‘dissapointed’ types: (1) I don’t (personallly) believe this’ll happen, but as a matter of logic: WB announced Bane is IN, but said nothing about strange being OUT (same for Talia) (2) I love Bane was picked… for Strange I sort of imagine what direction Nolan would have taken, but for Bane I have absolutely no idea, and it is precisely the ‘he’s gonna surprise me’ factor that i love

    • just a random guy

I forgot.. (3) Nolan at some point (cant remember the interview) said that ‘unlike the comics, these things don’t go on forever, ther eis aand end’ (or something along those lines)… my bet is Bane breaks the bat!

      • One-eyed Willie

        Yeah… Maybe you´re right, dude!

    • just a random guy

I forgot.. (3) Nolan at some point (cant remember the interview) said that ‘unlike the comics, these things don’t go on forever, ther eis aand end’ (or something along those lines)… my bet is Bane breaks the bat!

  • Thejokersmiles13

Awesome!!! wasn’t expecting Bane but the Nolans must have a trick up their sleeve if they went with Bane, can’t wait to be see this interpretation unlike the atrocity of B & R. Excellent choice for Selina Kyle i think she’s gonna do the part very proudly and i’m wondering if she will in fact be Catwoman cuz she’s only be confirmed as Selina Kyle so I’m wondering if maybe there is hope still for Black Mask or Hugo Strange cuz either of those two would be awesome but who knows, this is getting very exciting now can’t wait for more casting news ahead

  • Dknight007

It’s funny how some you whiny girls keep saying Hathaway is a horrible choice as Catwoman. You same idiots were saying the same thing when Ledger was cast as Joker and him and Nolan made you all look like the little cry baby trolls you are after Ledger knocked it out of the park and winning multiple awards and an Oscar for his performance.

So please you whiny little b**ches, just the hell up, because you have NO credibility! LOL

  • superbats

News Update: Chris Nolan knows far more than any of whiny crybaby fanboy trolls do about filmmaking. haha

Remember how Nolan and Ledger made you all look stupid after Ledgers turn as The Joker won him an Academy Award? Fanboy trolls have short memories don’t you?

Hathaway will be bring it and look yummy as Catwoman and Hardy will be a bad ass Bane! This film will be an epic conclusion to Nolans Bat films!

    • strangerthanjames

Tom Hardy is a fantastic actor. Bane is Batman’s most logical villain (not to mention strongest), which makes him even more dangerous. The dude figured out Batman was Bruce Wayne and played him to the bone even before that. This will be an excellent end to the best comic book franchise ever.

    • One-eyed Willie

I´ve said before: the joker is a marvelous, brilliant, fantastic character… Heath´s done so well ´cause the character helped a lot. And Bane? Bane is a good character, just it – good. Not a brilliant one. Tom Hardy maybe one of the best newcomers actor ando he´ll do a great job… with a – just not so great – character.

  • Manoschaos

I’m betting on Bane to kill Catwoman near the end. Batman and Bane lash it out. Bane is no monster he’ just an Arnold Schwarzennegger in “Pumping Iron” physique-kind-of-guy. From then on it’s either way. Batman wins or Bane kills him and he’s confronted by Gotham Police with a bullet to the brain. End credits

  • Zubeida_ct

Can’t explain how excited I am about this. And when we are talking about Tom Hardy’s height, it doesn’t matter. I mean, come on folks ! After seeing Heath Ledger in movies like Casanova, Brokeback mountain ( just to mention a few) People said that he couldn’t play the role as Joker. He was too much of a pretty boy . But he proved them wrong. Look at what he gave us. Personally I wanted for Nolan to use The riddler as the villain in the dark knight rises, but Bane is going to be great, as well as Anne Hathaway. I think that it will be G-R-E-A-T !

  • GUEST

Noooooooooooooo Anne H. cant ACT!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • GUEST

catwoman was blonde, strong, badass woman. not a brunette childish girl.

  • BATFAN

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO batman is not a disney movie!!!! u cant compair anne H with Ledger. He was a good actor.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Danthrax24 Dan Tucker

Happy about Catwoman, but Bane? Really? Come on!! Riddler? Penguin? Black Mask? Deadshot? Killer Croc? Poison Ivy? Talia Al-Ghul? Clayface? The Ventriloquist? Anyone would’ve been a better choice than Bane! Even Mr. Freeze!! (Yeah, I said it!)

    • One-eyed Willie

I think the same way, man… My only hope is Nolan´s visionary mind! I cannot imagine Nolan´s Bane using an idiot mexican luchador mask and some ridiculous catheter pumping steroids in his body! That would be a shame…

    • Guest

THE VENTRILOQUIST? You have GOT to be kidding me. Sorry, but merely mentioning that villain makes it very hard to take any of your post seriously. I strongly disagree, Bane is better than ALL of those villains. Some of those villains are too similar to the ones already used in BB and TDK.

I bet you will eat your words once the first trailer comes out and you see Hardy as Bane. Nolan said this is a NEW interpretation of Bane. Since Bane’s comic book history is short, there is A LOT of room for interpretation which Nolan will fully use.

  • http://twitter.com/Corporal_Nosaj Nosaj Illerrob

Honestly I do not like the casting, I do not understand how the character Bane is gonna work or fit into the realistic aspect of Nolan’s Gotham Batman world. Bane being a Chemical steroid induced Monster. The instant change is not a realistic trait, but I am open to hear ideas how this could be portrayed in Nolan’s eyes.
I am not a fan of Anne Hathaway either, most of her seductive roles played we not that exciting to me, But I hope he can teach her and help her Act the role that needs to be played to make this an AWESOME ending, and I am looking for any Ideas the community has?

    • Guest

Many ways how Nolan could portray Bane. He might be permanently enhanced in terms of size and strength by chemicals. There may be no switch involved at all.

      • Thepaperbag000

Exactly. Nolan could just have some new super steroid that Bane has an addiction to, or something. The picture doesn’t show any tubes on the mask though…

  • http://twitter.com/Corporal_Nosaj Nosaj Illerrob

I also like the Idea of Hugo Strange rather then Bane.BUT I am not Casting.

  • IamNotANugget

Never thought Hugo Strange was very good, glad it isn’t him. Bane is pretty cool.

  • just a random guy

Regarding how Bane fits the ‘real world’ of Nolan, think about this: Many (if not all) of Ra’s stories in the comics have elements of the ‘fantastical’ (lazarus pits, immortality, a ninja league, many battle vs the JLA) yet Nolan found a way to strip him down to basics (a simple guy who likes to play jury judge and executioner of ‘evil societies’), took all the ‘magic’ out, made the ninjas look cool and gave us a ver real version of a ver unreal character. If he pulled that off, he can definitely pull bane off.

  • just a random guy

Same goes for scarecrow… in the comics he’s a guy dressed up in straw, that at some point actually turned into a mutant crow-person, and that runs around talking in rhyme! Yet, Nolan stripped him down to basics (brilliant psychiatrist that came upon a bio-weapon) and gave us a kick-ass scarecrow… there is NO doubt he can strip down Bane’s essence to the bone and give us a kick-ass villain

Heard that they were thinking about using Blake Lively as catwoman / Selina . I would literately shoot myself if they did. I almost started to cry when I heard that. But luckily Anne Hathaway is playing her instead, which I believe is good news. Anne is a terrific actress, and I really think that shes gonna do some great things in the dark knight rises. When we are talking Hardy as Bane I couldn’t think of someone more perfect for the role. There
is allot of fuzz going around about his height, but hear me out folks. This is CHRISTOPHER NOLAN. He has no limits, that guy is a magician. But it shouldn’t be the appearance of the actor that has to matter, but his or hers acting skill. At the end of the day, it is after all what they do. ACTING :)

  • St Leo76

Hey, you guys can bitch and moan all you want about the casting of Bane, but what disgusts me is casting Hathaway as Catwoman? One of comic-doms most beloved( and sexiest) villianess? She’ll no doubt be pushing another one of her idiotic rom-coms during the Batman press interviews, ‘ cuz that’s what stuffy, A-list, Hollywood-ized actresses do and won’t even put her full power into what she will only look at as” just another movie role…yawn”. I’d would’ve rather see a B-list or unknown in this role, but i guess Nolan felt he needed the star power(?)….BTW-Am I the only on who thinks Hathaway looks like the Joker when she smiles? Yeesh…..:-(

alot of these comments come from people who have not seen bronson, hardy is a great actor and a very good method actor so stop been so negative,i would like to focus on the catwoman thing a bit commercial if you ask me but i am still excited to see the film so open your mind a bit and stop focusing on the actors height and size like that matters, its going to be a great film with a great cast

In the comics, Knightfall is where bane breaks batman’s back, during the events of Knightquest, Alfred accompanies Wayne to England, and becomes enraged when Wayne insists on endangering his own health while paraplegic. This was the culmination of several weeks of Wayne’s self-destructive behavior, and when Wayne returns to Gotham City, Alfred remains in England, tendering his resignation. He spends some time vacationing in Antarctica and The Bahamas before returning to England. Dick Grayson tracks him down several months later and convinces him to return to Wayne Manor. In that story, it was revealed he had walked out of his own wedding years earlier.

i am just shooting ideas, as to how the story could go

this is just a thought but if they end this phenomenal franchise it should end with batman discover ing the justice league’ then make a film about the JLA’ that then might inspire Nolen to make many more films but no matter what he decides i’m sure it will be great with all do respect.

I’m not sure if this has already been commented on, but does anyone see a resemblance between Anne Hathaway and Christian Bale’s wife? Supposedly, Bale had to screen test with the candidates for Selina Kyle and a lot of people are wondering what Nolan saw in Hathaway that made him want to cast her for this role. Maybe it was the fact that she just had the most chemistry with Bale and maybe that was because she reminded him of his wife. Just thought I’d toss that out and see what people thought.

i have to laugh at all the fools obsessed with an actors height. you do realize this is a movie and not a play ,right? On film things can appear any way the directors want. LOL Oh, and they are also filming in Philadelphia, not actual Gotham!!! How dare they……..LOL

Bottom line Mr. Nolan knows what he’s doing with the miovie and you don’t. Anyone that can deliver a movie like “The Dark Knight” deserves a lot of trust. Trust Mr. Nolan to do the right thing. In the world of CGI he can make anything happen. Much thought goes into casting and character development.

Anne Hathaway is already getting great buzz about her acting and her strong work ethic  on TDKR.

  • Dark Knight Rising

Anyone who questions Christopher Nolan’s choice of talent and the talents ability to portray the characters chosen in a satisfying, fan pleasing way hasn’t been paying attention to his last few films. The Nolan has the ability to bring out the best in his actors, and giving true fans of the franchise and Batman in general what they deserve in terms of nostalgically, visually pleasing films. Not to say they aren’t flawed, but Chris Nolan is doing something that not too many directors have done with Comic films ever. Coming from a place of true appreciation for the Dark Knight has helped him craft amazing stories based almost exclusively on SOURCE MATERIAL with a few awesome original tweaks and details. And ask for Tom Hardy as Bane, I guarantee that he will be the best live action interpretation of the character maybe ever. Despite his height, Hardy has the ability to pack on muscle and play a beast like nobody’s business. That being said, I obviously have complete faith in Nolan and Co. that they will not only make the best conclusion film to a comic films trilogy, but will bring their story full circle and yes, top the Dark Knight…no one has to agree, but please if you don’t have faith in Nolan and Hardy’s Bane, then go and watch Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin a few times to remind you of what Bane has been.
