Michael Caine talks ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ script and cast

E! News caught up with Michael Caine this past weekend, who was at New York’s annual Toy Fair promoting Cars 2. Of course he was asked about Christopher Nolan’s final Batman movie — here’s what Caine had to say about The Dark Knight Rises’ script.

I talked to Chris last week ’cause I said I hadn’t gotten a script and he said, “I haven’t finished it.” And he said, “I’ll finish it in two weeks”.

Caine also commented on the recent rumors surrounding Marion Cotillard, as well as the news about Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy officially joining the cast.

Marion Cotillard is in it? Nobody tells me these things, oh shoot. I didn’t know. Well, Anne Hathaway is Catwoman isn’t she? Well that’s fabulous. Tom Hardy is gonna be great too [as Batman nemesis Bane]. He’s a tough British actor.

In an interview last month, cinematographer Wally Pfister noted that he had read the script and Christopher Nolan is currently working on shortening it. Pfister described the script as “phenomenal”, though a bit long.

Michael Caine = Legend , As this is NOLANS last film i HOPE he doesnt have to edit down the script to much ! TDK was 2 and half hours ! whos up for a 3 hour BATMAN movie !

    • Me. Times 1,000.

      • Ryan

        4 hours please :)

After so many movies in recent memory, I think that the studios give these guys set limits on the hours of their movies. So, instead of getting a 3 & a half hour movie, we should come to expect a 2 & a half hour just as BB & TDK! I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think there’s ever been a three hour superhero movie.

          • True, but there’s also never been a superhero movie that made $530,000,000+ (domestically) at the box office until TDK. I’m sure the studio would want Nolan to make cuts for monetary reasons, but considering how he brought back the franchise from the abyss and turned it into a billion dollar monster, I think they’d give him some leeway.

But I think if Nolan feels there are ways to trim the script, he’ll make them in order to make a better movie.

  • edit down the script
how about we leave it long and make it an AWESOME EPIC big bang!

Poor old Michael Caine… always in the dark… I know how he feels. We’re all anxious for more news!

Don’t cut ANY of it. I want an EPIC 3h30m batman movie.

  • Manoschaos

Damn I want more , but I was ready to pee my pants by the time they took it to Pruit Building for the hostage situation in TDK. And I hadn’t drunk anything that day! Maybe cinemas in Greece and all over the world ought to bring back those 15min. breaks in the middle of the film. They’ve stopped it because they’re money vampires but I think Nolan can persuade them to have breaks if only for Batman 3. Who’s with me? I want it 3 hours of story with a 15 minute interval and Batman standing on top of a building as an intermission screen.

Oh, Michael Caine. The interviews with him on all things Batman always seem to be the best. He’s never in the loop, and he always gives away more than he should. Gotta love the guy…

  • He’s probably just saying that to say that.

  • Rocky

Poor old Michael Caine probably has to check this site to see what’s going on…

Michael Caine saying Hathaway is Catwoman =/= confirmation. But it’s a good sign!

Did anyone else have Michael Caine’s voice in their heads reading the quotes?

    • Manoschaos

I even read it out loud just to immitate his voice. You’re in all of our minds, dude :)

Why are you reporting something from Comic Book Movie? Hasn’t it already been established that they have no credibility? Today, they have a report saying Cotillard and JGL have definitely been cast. If you read the article, the author gives quotes by Chris Nolan, but it’s obvious they just cut and pasted his previous press release about Hathaway and Hardy. Even Batmanonfilm isn’t reporting this supposed official casting announcement.

    • This isn’t from Comic Book Movie. The source is E! News. I first saw this story on CBM so I gave them “via” credit.

My mistake. I despise Comic Book Movie. I noticed that they pulled their article about Cotillard and JGL. Gee, I guess they realized how stupid they look posting an obvious fake press release. Why do they even bother?
