Matthew Modine, Joey King & Tom Conti join ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Yesterday, after the big reveal of Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, Variety broke some casting news. According to the site, Matthew Modine, Joey King and Tom Conti have all joined the cast of The Dark Knight Rises. Matthew Modine will be playing a character named “Nixon”, but no other details were given. Joey King confirmed her involvement on Twitter, but didn’t comment on exactly what her role would be. Tom Conti’s role is also undetermined. How do you think these actors will fit The Dark Knight Rises’ story? Let me know in the comments.

    I would hazard a guess that one of the guys (most probably Modine) would be the new DA since that has a vacancy opened after Dark Knight but I could see Tom Conti playing a Mobster!

       Nixon the DA? Somewhat ironic. As for Conti, I can definitely see him as the last of the “Roman Empire”. But who’s left? Falcone is a bubbling mess, Maroni is a smear on the underside of a overturned car….

    I’m glad that Matthew Modine has joined the
    cast. I’ve been saying that the cast still feels incomplete and like it’s
    missing key characters. It feels complete now. If they add any other recognisable actors in this film, it will be a bonus.

    Matthew Modine should have joined the A-list years ago and should have only been doing movies that went to the cinema. Unfortunately, he has remained a straight to DVD king but he is an underrated actor. So, I hope that he does more movies which get released properly at cinemas, tries to reach his full potential as an actor and tries to win an Oscar.

    One of the things I love about these movies is that the casting is superb and very counter-intuitive. I never would have expected Tom Conti to be in it, but I’m sure it’ll be great. Can’t wait.

    I hope the kid is Barbara Gordon because she’s around the right age from the girl in TDK, but a young Talia would be cool too.

    That said, we always assume they’re gonna be comic characters and they hardly ever are. Also Conti is a great actor, nice to have him on board.

    I smell Rupert Thorn coming with Tom Conti and Joey King could seriously pass off as a young Marion Cotillard, and i’ll admit it’s really nice to see Matthew Modine land a role in The Dark Knight Rises, very underrated actor I believe. I bet he’ll be the acting D.A. in place of Harvey Dent. Man this cast is frickin HUGE!!! Even with small minor roles Nolan and Co. still manage to nab noteworthy actors.

    Modine is such a great actor! His role might be exclusive for the flick. But in other hand, this pap’s Tom Conti is the spitted image of Rupert Thorne!! Or some new mob boss…

    About
    Joey King I think she is Talia when she was a kid, because I saw it on twitter,
    which earlier this month, she said she would shoot in another country,
    and she went back to tweeting in 7 days, which was the last day filming in India.
    And besides, she seems a child’s version of Marion Cotillard … even their eyes are very similar.
    She is not Gordon’s
    daughter, Barbara, because in TDK,she must have been
    about 5 years and the time difference between TDK and TDKR is at most
    one year.
    And she isn´t the young Selina Kyle, because Anne has dark brown eyes and the girl has blue eyes.

       Maybe contact lenses? I read somewhere that Marion Cotillard’s role was small and fitting for a mother, which as the reason she took the role. I honestly cannot see her being Talia, for it would not be a small role… Unless they do what they did with Zsaz.

        Ra´s Al Ghul only appeared at the beginning and at the end of Begins and he was the main villain.
        The same can happen with Talia.
        And I DOUBT Anne would change her eye color for the movie.
        Joey is probably the young Talia or a new character.
        I´m sure she is not the young Selina Kyle neither Barbara Gordon.

     Modine is an excellent actor but i get the feeling that his role will be similar to Anthony Michael Halls in TDK. Very small but a cool role. Conti has Rupert Thorn written all over him. I wouldnt be suprised at all if thats the role he plays. Joey King does look like a young MC but that doesnt mean she’s gonna be Talia. She could be a little girl Bane takes hostage or something like that.

    I would be EXTREMELY surprised if Joey King would be other than Talia as a child, I mean the similarities to Marion(who is Talia, hands down) are amazing, both younger version of father and daughter are spot on!

    I just hope that Conti isn´t onboard to replace Tom Wilkinson… :S

    Joey King is Barbara Gordon as a kid, remember you never saw her in TDK, you only heard her voice when the Joker had kidnapped Jim Gordon’s family.  (wife, son and daughter, but you never saw the daughter) Here she is.

      Sorry but no she´s not. It´s very clear that once you get a young Ra´s Al Ghul you will need a young Talia Al Ghul to bridge the flashbacks to the present. Unless of course you are one of those fools who thinks Miranda Tate is simply… Miranda Tate.

      Barbara Gordon is in the Dark Knight, she is Commisioner Gordon’s wife, rather than daughter like in the comics. Unless Gordon’s wife has the same name as his daughter? You find this out when the police go to apologise after the supposed death of Gordon at the commissioners funeral march thing.

    What do Rutger Hauer, Eric Roberts, Anthony Michael Hall, Tom Berenger, and Matthew Modine have in common? All were big name actors at one point, but no longer. I think Nolan or his casting director likes to resurrect people.

    although highly unlikely for Nolan’s series (as the villain itself is somewhat ludicrous even in the cartoons etc.) but Joey King looks like she would make the perfect ‘Baby Doll’, a villain first seen in Batman The Animated Series. However, Josh Pence has been cast as a ‘young Ra’s Al Ghul’, therefore the most likely character is a young Tahlia Al Ghul. Personally, despite Marion Cotillard announcing that her role would be minimal and not important to the central plot, I reckon Miranda Tate could well be Tahlia Al Ghul as the character description for Tate is a Gotham executive who helps Bruce Wayne get back on track with his father’s ambitions to clean up Gotham city. Sounds very much like Tahlia who believed in the same things as Ra’s, her father, just not regarding his approach, so I reckon that although not central to the overall plot, Tahlia could still be thrown into the mix of TDKR.
