Wollaton Hall to be Wayne Manor in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

A few weeks ago, it was reported that the Osterley Park House would be used as Wayne Manor in The Dark Knight Rises. Many rooms of the house will be closed to the public later this month, to accommodate interior shoots for The Dark Knight Rises. Now, thanks to iTV Central, we know of another mansion that Christopher Nolan will be using as Wayne Manor. According to My Nottingham, Wollaton Hall and Park will be closed to the public from June 20th until July 6th, in order to enable “a film to have exclusive access to the site for filming”. Wollaton Hall looks very similar to Mentmore Towers, which was used as Wayne Manor in Batman Begins. I’m sure with a bit of Hollywood magic, Wollaton Hall will look just like Wayne Manor from Batman Begins… brick-for-brick.

Update: cwilliamson32 points out in the comments that Mentmore Towers was designed off Wollaton Hall, which is why the two buildings look so similar.

VERY Wayne Manor-ish. Looks amazing. Happy that Osterley is just being used for interiors.

  • Antrozous

I knew they would never would use Osterley House for an exterior Wayne Manor. Is was expecting Mentmore Towers once again though. I would like to know the real reason why didn´t they stick to the original…

  • Antrozous

I´ve heard Catwoman left a stuntman with a black eye. Look out, she´s fierce!

    • http://batman-news.com Batman-News.com

Yeah I saw that story too. It was from an UK tabloid though, not sure how accurate it is. Funny though!

This pretty much confirms … The Batcave!

    • guitardude006

Well, hopefully those improvements to the foundation in the southeast corner were taken into consideration. ;)

  • cwilliamson32

Well, a little bit on the architectural history.  Mentmore was actually designed off Wollaton Hall (nearly brick for brick).  So it wont be difficult at all for Mentmore to be nearly exactly the same on film as the original Wayne Manor as in BB.

Awesome, I didn’t know that. I updated the post with your comment :)

Couple sites got this set photo, also a report Hathaway injured a stuntman.

    • http://batman-news.com Batman-News.com

Yeah I saw that, I have a few of those photos myself that I haven’t posted yet. I might post them in the next couple days, just so people can speculate.

The Hathaway report comes from a UK tabloid though, not sure how true it is.

      • Just a random guy

I can imagine it already: “Catwoman wil BREAK you!!!” ;)

        • NADS

Bane is the one who breaks the bat lol

        • Antrozous

I´ve heard that she broke something alright… her costume! xD

Add to that pictures of Marion Cotillard just 2 weeks after having her baby.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1393924/Marion-Cotillard-shows-perfect-figure-TWO-WEEKS-giving-birth.htmlSo anyone who was worried about her not being able to get in shape in time to film The Dark Knight Rises needn’t be too concerned. She’ll make a great Talia…I mean, Tate.

        • http://batman-news.com Batman-News.com

          Yeah she looks awesome!

I live near Wollaton Hall and my friend went there for extra try-outs so this is definite.

  • Simon

Looks stunning, hopefully they won’t add any CGI. To me, it looks just like the one from BB.
    Can’t wait!!!

Try not to burn this one down.

  • WeirdGuy

I get a feeling the Batwing is gonna pop-up from the middle of that mansion. *D

  • resudes

    Woollaton Hall? What a dump.

    • Steven Peckuk

Reasons? By the way It’s Wollaton

  • JimmyFraska

I actually hope it stays slightly different as it is.  I don’t want to think that they used the exact same building.

  • http://grauskala.blogspot.com/ One_Eyed_Willie

I can’t believe we have so few info or news about the final chapter of Nolan’s ultimate Bat trilogy! I mean, comparing to TDK and as far as I recall, by this time we would be already buried in information… even the official synopsis is missing here, so c’mon!!!

    • http://grauskala.blogspot.com/ One_Eyed_Willie

By the way, I’m not complaining about Batman-news, but the whole TDKR secretive deal! wahahah

  • Natraylock

Is there a reason why they couldn’t use the original location for Wayne manor? Just curious.

    • Steven Peckuk

because it’s being turned into a hotel etc, if anything he’s built it brick by brick plus adding some to make it better i presume. I live just across the road from it and love the fact Hollywood is coming to town, look out for me in the film lol i will be hiding (only joking).

  • Taicade

Its a lovely building Ive have spent many an afternoon on the grounds as its only a couple of miles from where I live and I pass it daily

  • Frog18

Thought people might be amused to find that this location is roughly 5 miles north of a real town named Gotham.  Go check.

    • Steven Peckuk

Also read a article on left lion websire about Gotham in nottinghamshire and a so called Batman link.

    • GothamGuy

Gotham City was actually named after Gotham in Nottinghamshire (pronounced Goat-am). The locals here are a bit peeved that Batman didn’t visit the town for some publicity shots, after shooting at Wollaton.

  • Batgran

Wollaton Hall is a great place to use.  One of the finest Elizabethan manors in the country.
Of course, they couldn’t use the interior as its our natural history museum here in Nottingham.
I can’t see Batman sharing a room with a stuffed silverback gorilla that has its tackle hanging out.  ;-)

  • Avalonguineapigrescue

I live about a mile away from Wollaton Hall, its a beautiful deer park and will make an excellent setting, there are signs posted all over the park saying it will be closed to the public during filming :-D

  • scenic route

tell christian that the Crown is the best pub (in nearby beeston) in which to refresh his theatrical atributes

    • Gazette

      The crowne’s a shithole :P

  • Batman

didn’t they use this in X-Men First class? It looks VERY FAMILIAR, I’m pretty sure they did use it in X-Men First class

    • elaine

yes they did well spotted, we getting famous in Nottingham. thank you noticing this

      • http://twitter.com/the_squeee Traxy Thornfield

        Not according to IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1270798/locations

Also, I’m pretty sure that would’ve made the local news, which it hasn’t, considering how much buzz there is currently on BBC Nottingham about Batman.

  • SneakyJogger

I jog through wollaton park every few days, and know it well enough to know how to get in when it’s all locked up. I ran through earlier to see what I could see and I got about 100m from the hall, by 2 panalux trucks, before i got spotted and told to leave. Another interesting fact about the area is that nottingham has real bat caves near the castle and it is not uncommon for bats to fly around wollaton park at night

    • powel

there filming at the exchange arcade too too be used as seens in gotham court house and arcam assilum

  • Fuddle1

    i liv in nottingham

  • Michael

Yes, went here earlier to have a look over a perimeter wall (about 11.55pm midnight – 29th June); apparently there filming until 5am on 30th – asked a security guard at gate – there’s lots of security with big flash lights near the perimeter wall.
Could see the hall and a cherry picker with a huge light beaming down on the hall area. Lots of marquees, vehicles and crew on site etc..

    C ya

I wonder if they’ll include shots of the actual grounds or whether it’ll be all CGI. Been to many a beer and music festival at Wollaton Hall.

I took this photo of Wollaton Hall on a foggy day: http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/4972/17944918313507049941277.jpg
