‘The Dark Knight Rises’ set video shows Batman flying the Batwing

Batwing confirmed? I think so. Yesterday we saw pictures of a strange looking new vehicle, and today we have video of it in action! subaruwrxfan is back with 1080p HD video of Batman’s new ride in The Dark Knight Rises. He got up close and personal, you can really get a good look at it. I’ve added a few more videos of the Batwing in action, you can even see Batman in the cockpit. Check those out after the break.

Right, because this really steps into the absurdity of a Schumacher movie. *rolls eyes*

    This is Awesome!

    • bradley

Sorry for replying on the first page but I can’t tell if it’s really flying or being held up by that truck. I suspect its the latter, as I doubt the films budget could cover a machine like that.

      • http://www.facebook.com/robivazq Luis Roberto Vázquez

you can buy a plane like that with a few million …

        • bradley

Which could be a significant portion of the budget, after paying the actors and all the other junk they have to do.

But is it real or not?

      • TheChechin

the film is being budgeted at 250 million!!!! are you crazy?

        • bradley

The military has planes that cost a billion each.

    • Antrozous

      Duh…

Perhaps Batman is chasing the bad guys? (rolleyes)

      • BatFan

Lol, but didn’t we see catwoman stunt double driving that truck?! … i don’t know from this we can’t know for sure …i’m still trying to connect all the Spoilers we’ve had in the last few weeks and i can’t!

I Love it , my favourite Star Wars ships were always The Snow Speeders from The Empire Strikes Back , this reminds me of that but a 100 times better !

  • Anonymous

Holy Crap!  That is amazing, guess this confirms it.

Also, anyone else feeling a Blade Runnder/Spinner type influence in the design?

  • Pinoy Bat

awesome shots right there. after seeing some bad guys standing on the batmobile and stealing the batpod, it’s good to see the bat with a new toy. but it seems more like a hover craft than a plane. i wonder if it go up to high altitudes.

  • kellis

It aft of it looks like a flying Moreton Bay bug! Google image it!

I pretty much know how — he is probably one of the guys who works on the set dude, and I most likely have seen him myself… I was downtown watching – someone is basically putting on a show – and getting away with some good acting – I could only hope they catch this person – he is ruining the entire movie..bit by bit

earlier we saw a brunette stunt girl in a black tank top driving that big truck. Maybe it’s Selina who is gonna be in there.

Honestly, what is this is the BATMOBILE! Think about it, in a practical sense, a hover vehicle would make more sense than a wheeled vehicle. I would make sense, with all the limitations the Tumbler presented to Batman in the first two movies.

    • RLYHYPERGUY

There’s also the fact that there’s snow. Maybe the Tumbler doesn’t handle that very well!

Nolan is the man ! There will probably be even more stuff to see yet :) they have still got a lot of shooting to do! This WILL be the epic conclusion !

  • OneEyedWillie

Sick! Nolan you bastard, now i wanna know how that stuff will fit in realism! Yeah, reminds me the flying H-K from Terminator, which by the way i very much like!

holy f***ing sh*t!! it looks great! by the way, subarufan must officially be the unofficial TDKR production publicist. Does anyone have seen any other video of this kind circulating the web that isn’t from him? exactly, who cares? there’s a saying “he who strikes first strikes twice”.

This thing looks interesting, but not something that seems like it could take off.  The way the vehicle is proportioned looks clunkier it should, and hardly looks like a stealth-based plane.  Of course the sfx unit could be able to make it work, or it might actually fall under this kind of trope.

  • BATFAN

Really…How much more stuff is Nolan gonna cram into this flick? I trust in him, but between the ridiculous star-studded cast and all the different vehicles this reeks of Spider-Man 3…just hope the script is far better than that mess and all should be well!

    • Jim

I have it from a very reliable source that this movie is going to run at approx 200 minutes, that’s 3 hrs 20 mins :0)

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christopher-Reid/100000427070759 Christopher Reid

Not calling you a liar but 3 and a 1/2 hrs?  That is insane.  I know that I would be enthralled for every minute but the average movie goer?  Not so sure they would want Nolan making a movie that long, although it DEFINITELY has enough plot going on to fill it

I don’t think it’ll be a mess.  I’m not going to use that cheesy line “In Nolan I Trust” but I can honestly say he hasn’t made a movie that I haven’t liked, very good director.  I don’t think he would have agreed to go into shooting with a script he didn’t think would work well.  He’s all about themes and tying things together, I think it will be every bit the epic f*cking conclusion we all hope for

  • TDKR2012

hmmm…. this is definitely more unrealistic than the Tumbler/Batpod, but heck, i trust Nolan

  • Banealghul

Wow really liking the concept that they practically made it, instead of just an unrealistic CGI model, it really exists, good idea that they will later mask out the bottom half of the wheels and the gimble holding it up, so will have a realistic batman, Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

    • http://twitter.com/gautamvalluri Gautam Valluri

Smooth- even with better security, it’ll be really tough to conceal something as big as this creature. Only other way is to shoot in front of a green screen and have CGI like Zack Snyder, which we know is not how Nolan works.

Althought this is all excitment news I really would like to see Nolan explain the process of filming nigh scenes during the day because seriously I´m intrigued by it…

to create winter, snow and air, with CGI

    • OneEyedWillie

That is exactly what i’m wondering… too many scenes during the day already! I know they can use filters and stuff, but… always looks like artificial… doesn’t looks much Nolan. I remember the  TDK action scenes with Joker…all during night time!

I think it’s really funny how people will complain about Banes voice in the stadium when it’s played through a P.A. system and recorded on a phone. And yet watching the video of this shaky cheap looking Batwing gets no complaints.

I’m not complaining, I know that post production will make it look amazing. I just think it’s funny that people are so inconsistent with their pickyness…

This thing totally looks like something from several sci-fi movies. I can’t wait to see what the hell this thing does in the movie.

Oh gosh,  they better have a good script or all this elements are gonna screw the movie, its too much

    • Oberon sexton

Two paths: Or this movie becomes the best super hero movie in history, or it becomes another spiderman-3 There’s no going back.

    • BANE-MATALO

What I can say about that is that Christopher Nolan should make better a flick that lasts 3 hours at least, otherwise I don’t see all that stuff fiting in one movie plot

  • Batdude

Even if this movie is not as good as “The Dark Knight” it will never be as bad as “Spiderman 3″.
    Come on.

  • BANE-MATALO

I don’t understand all this. Is sad for this movie to be “spoiled” -or whatever you want to call it- like this. What’s happening there with the production? Are they not aware of this filmers ruining it all?  It was funny some weeks ago, now this “leaking” is starting to suck

  • Miranda

We have seen a lot of stuff and there’s yet a whole year to go, pleaseee christopher nolan stop this footage leaking

    • The knightMan

If you don’t want to see it, don’t click on it then. It’s pretty simple. No one has any idea what that machine is, what it’s used for or the scenes they are shooting. We have no clue. No one knows the plot, the elements, what’s going on with post production or anything.

They film scenes like this all time, your going to look funny when the film comes out and they’ve kept 1/10th of what you’ve seen leaked onto the net and everything is all the sudden at night instead of during the day. Nolan and the crew probably could careless what you see, no one here sitting and talking on a message board has any clue what’s going on. Your speculating and that ship, Bat Wing, Bat Plane, or whatever it is might not be anything at all. It might be used for one very small part of the film and 3/4 of it might be CGI, you have no clue. This is not a spoiler. If the script leaks online spilling essential details and huge elements of the story…..that’s a spoiler.

      • Anonymous

Well said. We have to keep in mind that we have only seen small clips of portions of the movie that will occur outdoors during the snowing. And all of it will change in post-production. These are all things that will probably appear in the trailer. Nolan would never let any important plot info get leaked, it would be counter-productive to the business. He has more control that we think.

  • Hqueen

Screw Nolan and his so-called “realism”!!!

    • Ryan17

You try and make a batman as good as Nolan. These are fan videos ad pictures you don’t even know how it functions So just wait until the film is finished.

  • The Dork Knight

I like the idea of the Bat-Wing but when it was first mentioned I has thoughts of a hang-glider (as in Year One), I’m just praying that this doesn’t mean a leap from the reality based story and tech to a more fantastical approach. Granted Bruce Wayne has access to the most cutting edge tech so all this may be plausible…

  • Blokkertje

About the vehicles, Nolan’s Batmobil and Batwing are just as ugly as the cosume he designed. Tim Burton got at least the vehicles right. When it comes to the costume, i’ll stick to the one used in : Batman Dead end (Check it out on YouTube.). Wich is closest to the source material. Burton’s Batmobil was/is just awesome. In Nolan’s i don’t trust, nor do i like the looks. Batman isn’t in the military, he has style! Also starting to rename Batman to The Dark Knight is a part i always figured as Lame. I’m sorry guys, don’t get me wrong… when it comes to the Comics, and especially The Animated Series, Batman was always one of my favorite Superheroes. But when it comes to the Movies, then Superman is my guy! I loved Batman Begins though, but i still prefer Tim Burtons version, because he stayed closer to the source material. The dark knight… only the first 10 minutes (The bank robbery.) were easy on the eyes, the rest was Bullsh*t. TDKR i have exactly 0 faith in. The photo of Baine, The plane, The Teaser Trailer, not one of those things seem to impress me. Nolan never got the part what Batman is really about. In short that is : World’s Greatest Detective! I see a ninja in a Batman costume, without any detective skills. I hope Baine will break this Batman’s neck instead of his back, so whe can finally reboot this franchise!

To: “Oberon sexton and Batgirl” and all the rest of the haters, complainers, nitpickers.Stop complaining. It’s driving everyone else with any intelligence nuts. You complainers have absolutely no idea what is going on with this movie, you have no clue at all. You don’t know anything about the plot, the story, the concepts, the CGI, post-production, anything.”Big guns…………..   CAtwoman, Bane, John Blake, Thalia Al Ghul,

How about Harvey Dent/Two Face, the Joker, Gamble, The Chechen, Commissioner Loeb dying, The Scarecrow, Maroni, The Bat Pod, fake Batman’s, Reese discovering Bruce, Lau and Wayne Enterprises, Rachel dying, Tumbler blowing up, Batman traveling to Japan, Hospital blowing up, Harvey Dent dying. Sound familiar? What happened to that movie again? Oh….yeah, second highest grossing film of all time.SHUT UP!……you have ZERO idea what is going on, you have no clue. Stop complaining, stop cluttering this board with you whining and bickering. The Dark Knight HAD TONS of stuff going on, TONS. It was non-stop throughout the whole film and it was nitpicked to death and the result was only one of the greatest films ever made.Either say something meaningful or positive or don’t say anything at all. If you want to complain go to Jett’s BOF, I’m sure you’ll fit right in over there.

I pray to God that Jim is right and his sources are truly reliable… A 200-minute conclusion is EXACTLY what we need to wrap up this awesome trilogy. If my memory serves me right, “The Godfather Part II” was about 200 minutes long and it was supposed to be the conclusion of The Godfather saga before they ruined it with “The Godfather Part III”. “The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King”, the conclusion to the greatest fantasy film trilogy of all-time, was even LONGER than 200 minutes. TDKR needs to be long, spectacular and EPIC.

Oh, and as for the new and improved Batwing: Nolan has nailed it again. It looks extremely badass. Can’t wait to see how exactly it’s going to be used, but I sense a shitload of epic fight scenes in the movie.

    • OneEyedWillie

I don’t think GF III has ruined the GF’s saga… it’s a very good movie. The thing is: GF II is outstanding! But this is a Batman’s forum… and yeah, i see TDKR as a chance for the third chapter be the best one!

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ANJ4PYSPNHYVHBWHPVT3O72RZE Darrell

GF III was a good film but like Young Guns II and all the Final Destination sequals (they should have ended with 1), it wasn’t needed. TDKR is a sequal we would like to go on ( in sarcastic voice) NOLAN!

    • Rodney

It’s not going to be 200 minutes long.  IMAX film platters don’t hold that much film.  AVATAR is the longest film ever shown in IMAX and is the longest that can be shown in IMAX film based theatres.   AVATAR pushed IMAX film projection platters to their limit.  Special new hardware was built so that the whole film would fit onto the platters.

      • Christianbale

You might be right, but Nolan AND his cinematographer have both stated that 70 mm cameras will be used for the dialogue scenes and not the entire movie will be shot in IMAX. So I’ll keep my hopes.

        • Rodney

You are correct, they have said the whole movie will not be shot in IMAX.  The whole movie will be printed onto IMAX 15/70 film stock to be played in IMAX theaters.  They could do an intermission if they wanted a longer running time, they could release a longer version in traditional theaters.  I personally think that if it came in around two and a half hours, I would be very happy!

I have no doubt that this movie will be ICON and definitely a very special milestone so to speak in the category superhero movies. The Dark Knight wrote history by breaking a lot of records and The Dark Knight Rises will make it’s own insane records. I have no doubt.

If that footage is in the movie, I hope they follow it with a scene of Bruce taking fiying lessons. They better use CGI or somthing. He looked like he almost crashed a few times. It almost reminds me of a flying version of the shagohod from Metal Gear Solid 3. Cool though!

    • The knightMan

Like I’ve been saying all along this film is going to look entirely different once post-production is finished. Looking at that aircraft, hovercraft, Bat-Chopper, Bat-Wing or Bat-Plane or whatever it is, I’ll guarantee you that CGI is involved in someway.

Also the scenes they are filming are all during the day (which can be changed in PP) but look at the circumstance in which these scenes are being filmed. Do you really think Batman is going to be cruising down the middle of road in Gotham? These scenes being filmed might be used for a crash sequence or motion sequences and the whole conception of the craft might not be fully completed until PP.

No one knows anything about this thing or the plot or the story. So it’s almost impossible to speculate. It looks realistic and it looks awesome. But I’ll guarentee you one thing, this isn’t the finished version in what we are looking at.

      • The knightMan

Another thing that hasn’t been discussed is this could be an part of the Tumbler like the Bat-Pod was. Look at the cockpit and the structure of the craft and how similar it looks to that of the Tumbler. It could be detached from the Tumbler during an explosion of some kind and might turn into a small plane/Jet.

        who knows??

        • Antrozous

Detached from the Tumbler? What Tumbler? Did we get a look at any black Tumbler? No, so there´s probably no more Batmonile,  And even if there is one did you see the size of that aircraft? No physical chance of that thing coming out of the Tumbler in my opinion.

In this video they are really going full throttle!

The biggest problem I have right now is with all the genius fan boys who are already ripping this movie which they no nothing about and on top of that they’re ripping Nolan, complaining that there are too many characters, there’s too much going on, worrying about security, nitpicking the Bat-Wing/Bat-Plane, ripping Bane’s voice…basically complaining about everything.

My question to all you complaining is has Christopher Nolan ever made a bad movie? Do you really think that one of the best directors of our time has created essentially the greatest comic book movie of all time and now is going to ruin it? Do you really think that he doesn’t know what’s going on and what he’s doing? There’s a reason Batman has flourished under his direction. The biggest fear in all of this is that by next year at this time Batman will officially be done in the Nolan-era, forever.  That’s what really sucks.

Just enjoy the ride and stop complaining.

  • BigBatFan

These haters of Nolan’s batman are just wrong. I find it difficult for them to even try and argue against TDK, let alone this film. you don’t even have to like batman to recognise that TDK was quality. And all this stuff about making batman more like the comics is just bollacks, comics are drawings, films are real. Its far more skillfull to re-invent elements of a comic and translate them into a possible world in which people can relate to. Making a film that looks just like a comic is easy and doesn’t work, thats why Batman and Robin was dog shit. And I hope Nolan distances himself from a possble Batman and Superman team up, would be silly. I hope DC don’t try and do what Marvel have done, because I have little faith in the Avengers as Thor was average and Captain America was fucking terrible. As for TDKR, I really do think that for the first time ever the third film could ctually be the best in the trilogy.

  • Matthieu Desormeau

Of course you’ll see CGI innit…it will begin by changing the time of the day from broad daylight to night time…if they can make it, I’m sure that erasing a chassis underneath the BW won’t hurt their budget.

    • Antrozous

The question is what´s the big advantage of filming during the day? It will cost immensely to change it all in post production so why do it, specially with hot summer days? It´s a mistery to me…

I don’t get it. Why wold Nolan allow the sets to be breached so easily? The scene of the Batwing driving/flying behind the truck doesn’t make sense. You can see people walking in the background as well as regular traffic moving along. Also, I’m no special effects expert (and if I’m wrong tell me) but don’t they need some type of blue/green screen wrapped around the bottom of that vehcile to make it looking like it was flying? Like I said, I just don’t get why.
