Comic News: Fox attacks DC, Batman meets Vampires, Justice League, and more

Here’s something new we’re trying out: a list of all the Batman related comic book news stories from the week. Be sure to voice your opinion on the following topics in the comments section at the bottom of the page.

BATMAN, CATWOMAN, AND THE REST OF DC COMICS UNDER ATTACK BY FOXNEWS

Notice how they don’t attack Marvel at all. Could that possibly be because Fox depends on a few Marvel properties like X-Men, Daredevil, and Fantastic 4? And why is this news now? The comic they reference over and over is Catwoman #1 which went on sale back in November. Seems like a story they filmed a while ago and have been saving up for a slow-news day. If a book is rated T or T+, flip through it and make a judgment call yourself before you hand it to your kid. That’s not news, that’s common sense and applies to movies, TV shows, and video games as well. And even if you think your kid is too young to have seen the violence or sexuality in the comic—what’s the worst that could happen now? You can’t take 5 minutes to talk to your kid and explain what they saw?

BATMAN MEETS VAMPIRES IN THE UPCOMING “I, VAMPIRE”

I read the first issue of this series and it was okay, but I was already reading American Vampire and didn’t see a reason to read more than one vampire book. Especially when American Vampire is so, so good. Anybody here read it? What do you think about this series crossing over with the rest of the DC Universe?

JUSTICE LEAGUE #1 GETS A 6TH PRINTING

The highest selling single issue of 2011 goes back to the printers yet again. It was good, but I don’t know about 6 printings good.

THE COURT OF OWLS CROSSOVER EVENT & MORE

I honestly didn’t read this interview because I’m afraid of being spoiled about upcoming plot details, haha. But still, judging by the introductory paragraph it appears to explain the upcoming price hike in Detective Comics and Batman and what the future holds for the best Batman story going on right now.

ARKHAM CITY ARTIST TO DRAW JUSTICE LEAGUE #8

I’m excited about this. The concept artist from Arkham Asylum and Arkham City and the artist of Dini’s Arkham City mini-series is drawing more DC comics characters. This is a good thing.

THINGS WORTH DISCUSSING

This isn’t so much news as it is a handful of things that I think are worth discussing right now.

First, Joker’s watered down impact. The three most famous acts of villainy Joker ever committed in the comics are now gone. Washed away. Jason Todd is back from the dead, Barbara can walk again, and according to Batgirl #5 Sarah Essen may not have ever even existed in the New52 universe. What are your thoughts on that?

Secondly, with Sarah Essen’s existence in question, how do you think DC should approach her if/when her character is brought back? When we see her next will she be meeting Jim for the first time? Did the No Man’s Land arc ever happen? Is Batman: Year One no longer canon?

Lastly, let’s talk about Chris. The main man who runs this site– he’s never seen The Shawshank Redemption. What’s that all about? We need to get Chris to watch The Shawshank Redemption, people! And after that’s done we can work on getting him to watch another classic that if you knew he hadn’t seen it–it would shake you to your very core. Here’s a hint, an anagram: “Attorneys at law loggish irirr”
