Judd Winick leaves Batwing

So here’s some big news that I missed out on by being away for a week. Newsarama talked with Judd Winick and learned that he will be exiting the Batwing title very soon:

It’s with a heavy heart that I announce that I’ll be leaving the DC monthly Batwing. I’ve had a terrific time on the title and have loved crafting this adventure with some phenomenal people. Artists Ben Oliver, Marcus To, and Brain Reber have made these stories come to life. I will miss telling the tales of David Zavimbe, the Batman of Africa in many ways, but I’m proud of the work we’ve done. My departure is simply a time issue. I’m pursing a few other projects that make it impossible for me continue doing a monthly book.

And with that Judd Winick goes from writing two bat-titles to zero. His run on Catwoman ended just last month and we’ll see the first issue with new writer Ann Nocenti in just a few weeks with issue #0. As for Batwing, there is still no word on which writer will be taking Winick’s place or which issue he’ll be leaving on exactly. He’s solicited to be writing the series through issue #14, but he apparently told Newsarama that next week’s issue #0 will be his last!

While we wait for an official announcement from DC, let’s discuss how you all feel about losing Winick as writer of Batwing. Who would you like to see take the reins?
