Joss Whedon played a big part in Marvel’s success, starting with 2012’s The Avengers. He wrote and directed that movie, along with its sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron. He also served as a consultant on other Marvel projects. That’s why some fans were surprised that Whedon was coming over to DC to write and direct Batgirl.
The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige yesterday, and he revealed that Whedon called him about doing Batgirl.
“He called. A couple months ago, which he didn’t have to do and was super cool of him and super nice of him,” Feige said. “And we couldn’t be more supportive. We want to see a Joss Whedon Batgirl film be awesome.”
It sounds like Whedon was looking for a blessing from his old boss to make sure there wouldn’t be any hard feelings with him “switching teams”. And while Whedon or Warner Bros. haven’t come out and confirmed it yet, this is even more evidence that points to Whedon writing and directing Batgirl.
