It’s no secret that Marvel has been very successful in bringing their superheroes to life in a big way. Much of that can be credited to Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige, whose movies have grossed over $8 billion worldwide. Other than Batman, Warner Bros. has struggled to make successful movies featuring their DC heroes. They could be on the right track with this summer’s Man of Steel, but there is still a lot of work to do if they hope to make their upcoming Justice League movie as successful as Marvel’s The Avengers. Collider chatted with Feige recently and asked what advice he’d give to Warner Bros. and DC about Justice League. Here’s what he had to say:

I don’t know. I’m sure they have smart people over there who have a plan and know what they’re doing. Man of Steel looks like it’s going to be awesome and obviously Dark Knight is awesome. I don’t know. It’s what I say all the time and have said over the years, which is, have confidence in the characters, believe in the source material, don’t be afraid to stay true to all of the elements of the characters no matter how seemingly silly or crazy they are. I don’t know, I think the Marvel characters have a bit of a leg up for all the reasons that Marvel fans are aware of in terms of the emotional complexity of the characters and the flawed nature of the characters. Those are obviously the elements we want to accentuate amongst all the action.

I think there have been a lot of great DC stories and there are a lot of great DC characters, and if they focus on those things the audience will be interested. It was a very unique model that we were lucky enough to be able to do – introducing each individual hero before introducing The Avengers. That, to me, is what was always interesting about The Avengers. The Avengers are not The Guardians of the Galaxy, are not The Dirty Dozen, where you spend a movie introducing each character and putting them together for the first time. The Avengers was cool because they were preexisting characters that teamed up for a big event. I think that’s why Justice League was cool, Justice League was first. That’s what they did first in comic form.

Warner Bros. is hoping that their next big superhero movie, Man of Steel, a big success this summer. Not just because they want their movie to do well — the future of their superhero franchise depends on Man of Steel succeeding. If Superman bombs then all Justice League plans will probably be put on hold. However, early signs suggest that Warner Bros. has a hit on their hands with Man of Steel. It’s being directed by Zack Snyder who was hired by the producer, Christopher Nolan. Nolan also contributed to the story with his Dark Knight trilogy writer David Goyer.

It’s already been reported that Snyder has references of the DC Universe in Man of Steel for fans to pick up on, and it looks like Warner Bros. is hoping he’ll direct the upcoming Justice League movie too. The latest issue of Empire magazine features Superman on the cover and there’s a big article dedicated to Man of Steel. The magazine confirms that Snyder is likely to direct Warner Bros.’ superhero team up movie:

“Warner Bros.’ long-term view has been revised to embrace this new vision, just as the Dark Knight films resisted the commodification of Marvel. Whether we get a Justice League, they say, depends on Man of Steel. If we do, they say, Zack Snyder will be asked to direct.”

This lines up with rumors from early March, which said that Warner Bros. wanted Christopher Nolan to produce Justice League, Zack Snyder to direct, and Christian Bale to come back as Batman. We later learned that Bale’s return was unlikely, and the president of Warner Bros. has said that Nolan will not produce. However if Zack Snyder really is chosen to direct Justice League, perhaps he’ll be able to talk his Man of Steel producer into joining him. And if Nolan is on board, maybe he’ll be able to get Bale into it too.

There’s a lot riding on Man of Steel right now, and the future of the Justice League movie should be a lot clearer later this year. Will director Zack Snyder be looking to jump right back into the DC Universe? From the looks of things, Warner Bros. has a hit on their hands. Check out the latest trailer for Man of Steel below.

There have been a ton of rumors surrounding the upcoming Justice League project and how this summer’s Superman movie Man of Steel might fit into it. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s The Dark Knight Rises character John Blake was even rumored to make an appearance in Man of Steel to set up a superhero team up movie at one point.

In the latest issue of Empire (thanks to Comic Book Movie for the excerpt), Man of Steel director Zack Snyder confirms that his Superman lives in a world where other heroes exist. “I have been making references to the DC Universe, just to let you know that world is out there…” he teased.

Could we see some Batman references in this summer’s Superman movie? Gotham was mentioned in 2006′s Superman Returns. I guess we’ll just have to wait to see how many hints Zack Snyder has in store for us. Stay tuned to Batman News for all the latest on the future of Batman on film!

There have been a lot of rumors surrounding the future of Batman on film and a possible Justice League movie. Now we have some answers straight from the source. Jeff Robinov, president of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, spoke to EW recently about Man of Steel and the future of DC Comics movies. Unfortunately Robinov confirmed last week’s report… Christopher Nolan will not produce Justice League.

However, Robinov was unequivocal when asked if the rumor is true that Nolan will produce a Justice League movie, and bring Christian Bale back with him: “No, no it’s not.” (Nolan’s reps, who have previously declined to comment on that rumor, also confirmed Robinov’s statement and told EW that he definitely wasn’t involved with Justice League. Nolan is currently busy prepping his sci-fi film Interstellar.)

EW goes on to speculate that Warner Bros. will reboot the Batman franchise and tie those movies into their Justice League project, rather than trying to fit Christopher Nolan’s Batman into their story. That makes a lot more sense now, especially with Nolan distancing himself from Justice League. I have to admit, I was excited when I heard that Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale were in talks to return but it looks like Warner Bros. wasn’t able to get the deal signed.

Check out the full interview with Jeff Robinov at the source link below, it’s very interesting. And as always stay tuned to Batman News for all the latest on the future of Batman on the silver screen.

The internet exploded last month when word came out that Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale were possibly returning in the upcoming Justice League movie. El Mayimbe of Latino Review is back… but this time it’s bad news.

Unfortunately in Hollywood, deals don’t always come through. Warner Bros. definitely wanted to bring Christopher Nolan back to produce Justice League and they were trying to get Christian Bale to reprise his role as Batman too. El Mayimbe stopped by the Schmoes Knows Movies podcast this evening to give us an update.

According to El Mayimbe, Warner Bros. is having trouble getting Christopher Nolan on board. Nolan doesn’t want Justice League to mess with the story he created for The Dark Knight trilogy. There’s even some resistance about Superman from this summer’s Man of Steel appearing in Justice League. As it stands now, Warner Bros. is more likely to release a sequel to Man of Steel… Justice League is going to be pushed back a bit. As always, things could change but that’s the latest on Warner Bros. superhero team-up movie.

Update 04/05/13: I’ve embedded the Schmoes Knows Movies podcast below so you can hear it all from El Mayimbe himself. How do you feel about this news? Let me know in the comments below.

Nothing like a HUGE story to kick off the launch of Batman News 2.0. I can’t even believe I’m about to write this… but Warner Bros. is reportedly about to put some life into their failed Justice League project. We recently learned that Will Beall’s script has been scrapped, and they were going back to the drawing board. El Mayimbe of Latino Review is back with another huge scoop! According to El Mayimbe, Christopher Nolan’s new role at Warner Bros. is to oversee all developments of their superhero properties. Like he did on Man of Steel, Nolan will “Godfather” and produce the upcoming Justice League movie. But that’s not all…

Last May, Bale told Empire Magazine that if Christopher Nolan came to him with a good story, he’d be willing to play Batman again. The plan right now is to have Christian Bale reprise his role as Batman and join Henry Cavill’s Superman. Warner Bros. feels like their back is against the wall… and has to do something huge in order to compete with Marvel’s The Avengers. El Mayimbe suggests that a scene following Man of Steel’s credits could involve Superman finding a “retired” Bruce Wayne, and persuading him to join his “team”. If that happened, El Mayimbe says fanboys would squeal like 13 year old girls at a Justin Bieber concert… and I think he might be right!

Check out the video above for all the details and hit up Latino Review at the source link below for the full story. And for those who are skeptical about this report… Latino Review has been a great source of Warner Bros. movie news. They were the first website to report that Heath Ledger had been cast as The Joker and that Brandon Routh would be Superman in 2006′s Superman Returns. Do you like the idea of Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan teaming up again for Justice League? Or would you prefer Warner Bros. went a different route? Leave your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned to Batman News for all the latest Justice League updates.

The always reliable El Mayimbe of Latino Review decided to drop a huge Justice League story on Twitter just hours after the report that Warner Bros. has scrapped Will Beall’s script. It was heavily rumored that Warner Bros. wanted Ben Affleck to direct their superhero movie but we hadn’t heard any casting rumors, or who may be the next Batman. Until now. According to El Mayimbe, Warner Bros. didn’t just want Affleck to direct, they wanted him to star in the movie too… as Batman!

FUN & FABULOUS FANBOY FACT OF THE DAY: DID YA KNOW WHEN AFFLECK WAS APPROACHED TO DIRECT JUSTICE LEAGUE THEY ALSO WANTED HIM TO PLAY BATMAN?

Affleck decided to pass on the project and now Warner Bros. is without a script, director, Batman, or any actor for that matter. El Mayimbe hints that he may be able to dig up some more information, Tweeting “Justice League. To be continued. Trust me on this fanboy nation”. Do you think Ben Affleck would have made a good Batman? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Badass Digest is reporting that Will Beall’s script for Justice League has been scrapped. For what reason? The site claims to be hearing the same thing from multiple sources — the script was terrible. It appears that it Warner Bros. may need to go back to the drawing board. They had hoped to release Justice League in the summer of 2015, but that looks very unlikely now. Along with script issues, Warner Bros. has been unable to hire a high quality director for their superhero team-up movie. We know that they originally wanted Ben Affleck, but he decided to pass. Perhaps he knew that the script was destined for failure?

Recent reports say that Warner Bros. is going to wait and see how the new Superman movie, Man of Steel, performs at the box office this summer before moving forward with any Justice League plans. And what does this mean for the future of Batman? It’s been rumored that Justice League would introduce the next theatrical version of The Dark Knight. We’ll have to wait and see if that still happens… so stay tuned to Batman News for all the latest news, rumors, and Justice League updates.

MTV’s Josh Horowitz caught up with Joseph Gordon-Levitt at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah to talk about his upcoming projects. Horowitz couldn’t let the interview end without asking about the recent rumor that Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character from The Dark Knight Rises might be making a cameo in this summer’s Superman movie Man of Steel. Gordon-Levitt explained that he hadn’t heard that particular rumor, but that we shouldn’t believe it. He concluded the interview by saying if there’s something we need to know, he’ll tell us on Twitter. Check out his comments for yourself at the 1:10 mark of the embedded video and leave your thoughts in the comments.
