I don’t know. I’m sure they have smart people over there who have a plan and know what they’re doing. Man of Steel looks like it’s going to be awesome and obviously Dark Knight is awesome. I don’t know. It’s what I say all the time and have said over the years, which is, have confidence in the characters, believe in the source material, don’t be afraid to stay true to all of the elements of the characters no matter how seemingly silly or crazy they are. I don’t know, I think the Marvel characters have a bit of a leg up for all the reasons that Marvel fans are aware of in terms of the emotional complexity of the characters and the flawed nature of the characters. Those are obviously the elements we want to accentuate amongst all the action.

I think there have been a lot of great DC stories and there are a lot of great DC characters, and if they focus on those things the audience will be interested. It was a very unique model that we were lucky enough to be able to do – introducing each individual hero before introducing The Avengers. That, to me, is what was always interesting about The Avengers. The Avengers are not The Guardians of the Galaxy, are not The Dirty Dozen, where you spend a movie introducing each character and putting them together for the first time. The Avengers was cool because they were preexisting characters that teamed up for a big event. I think that’s why Justice League was cool, Justice League was first. That’s what they did first in comic form.

It’s already been reported that Snyder has references of the DC Universe in Man of Steel for fans to pick up on, and it looks like Warner Bros. is hoping he’ll direct the upcoming Justice League movie too. The latest issue of Empire magazine features Superman on the cover and there’s a big article dedicated to Man of Steel. The magazine confirms that Snyder is likely to direct Warner Bros.’ superhero team up movie:

“Warner Bros.’ long-term view has been revised to embrace this new vision, just as the Dark Knight films resisted the commodification of Marvel. Whether we get a Justice League, they say, depends on Man of Steel. If we do, they say, Zack Snyder will be asked to direct.”

This lines up with rumors from early March, which said that Warner Bros. wanted Christopher Nolan to produce Justice League, Zack Snyder to direct, and Christian Bale to come back as Batman. We later learned that Bale’s return was unlikely, and the president of Warner Bros. has said that Nolan will not produce. However if Zack Snyder really is chosen to direct Justice League, perhaps he’ll be able to talk his Man of Steel producer into joining him. And if Nolan is on board, maybe he’ll be able to get Bale into it too.

There’s a lot riding on Man of Steel right now, and the future of the Justice League movie should be a lot clearer later this year. Will director Zack Snyder be looking to jump right back into the DC Universe? From the looks of things, Warner Bros. has a hit on their hands. Check out the latest trailer for Man of Steel below.

In the latest issue of Empire (thanks to Comic Book Movie for the excerpt), Man of Steel director Zack Snyder confirms that his Superman lives in a world where other heroes exist. “I have been making references to the DC Universe, just to let you know that world is out there…” he teased.

Could we see some Batman references in this summer’s Superman movie? Gotham was mentioned in 2006′s Superman Returns. I guess we’ll just have to wait to see how many hints Zack Snyder has in store for us. Stay tuned to Batman News for all the latest on the future of Batman on film!

However, Robinov was unequivocal when asked if the rumor is true that Nolan will produce a Justice League movie, and bring Christian Bale back with him: “No, no it’s not.” (Nolan’s reps, who have previously declined to comment on that rumor, also confirmed Robinov’s statement and told EW that he definitely wasn’t involved with Justice League. Nolan is currently busy prepping his sci-fi film Interstellar.)

EW goes on to speculate that Warner Bros. will reboot the Batman franchise and tie those movies into their Justice League project, rather than trying to fit Christopher Nolan’s Batman into their story. That makes a lot more sense now, especially with Nolan distancing himself from Justice League. I have to admit, I was excited when I heard that Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale were in talks to return but it looks like Warner Bros. wasn’t able to get the deal signed.

Unfortunately in Hollywood, deals don’t always come through. Warner Bros. definitely wanted to bring Christopher Nolan back to produce Justice League and they were trying to get Christian Bale to reprise his role as Batman too. El Mayimbe stopped by the Schmoes Knows Movies podcast this evening to give us an update.

According to El Mayimbe, Warner Bros. is having trouble getting Christopher Nolan on board. Nolan doesn’t want Justice League to mess with the story he created for The Dark Knight trilogy. There’s even some resistance about Superman from this summer’s Man of Steel appearing in Justice League. As it stands now, Warner Bros. is more likely to release a sequel to Man of Steel… Justice League is going to be pushed back a bit. As always, things could change but that’s the latest on Warner Bros. superhero team-up movie.

Last May, Bale told Empire Magazine that if Christopher Nolan came to him with a good story, he’d be willing to play Batman again. The plan right now is to have Christian Bale reprise his role as Batman and join Henry Cavill’s Superman. Warner Bros. feels like their back is against the wall… and has to do something huge in order to compete with Marvel’s The Avengers. El Mayimbe suggests that a scene following Man of Steel’s credits could involve Superman finding a “retired” Bruce Wayne, and persuading him to join his “team”. If that happened, El Mayimbe says fanboys would squeal like 13 year old girls at a Justin Bieber concert… and I think he might be right!
