‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is filming in the UK

Last week Hero Complex confirmed where The Dark Knight Rises would not be filming, and now Variety knows where it will. In a recent article, Variety confirms that The Dark Knight Rises crew will be heading back to the Cardington hangars, which sit just outside of Bedford. This isn’t a huge surprise, both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were shot there. Hopefully we’ll see the return of the Batcave, Wayne Manor, and the Narrows, all of which are over in the UK. I think it’s safe to assume production will also be returning to Chicago as well.

In another bit of news, production designer Nathan Crowley will be returning for The Dark Knight Rises. Crowley has previously worked on Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Production is scheduled to begin in May 2011.

Stay tuned to Batman-News.com for all the latest news leading up to The Dark Knight Rises‘ July 20th, 2012 release.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ script is due Monday

Chris Nolan told me his The Dark Knight Rises script is due Monday or he's in big trouble. Big trouble? What can they do? Fire him?

David Cohen of Variety just spoke to Christopher Nolan about The Dark Knight Rises script. As you can see from his tweet, Nolan has just a couple days left to put the finishing touches on it.

Since Warner Bros. will be receiving the script on Monday, is it possible they’ll send out a press release with the villain and plot summary before Christmas? Or will we have to wait until early next year? We’ll find out soon!

Eckhart confirms no Two-Face in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Aaron Eckhart confirmed in an interview with MTV that Two-Face will not be returning in The Dark Knight Rises. While the script said that Two-Face died in The Dark Knight, fans have been debating on whether or not he was really dead. There was even some speculation that Two-Face would appear in The Dark Knight Rises via flashbacks. Eckhart’s recent comments seem to put that speculation to rest:

“Chris [Nolan] and I had a meeting, on the beach, just the two of us,” Eckhart told MTV News at the red carpet premiere of his new film, “Rabbit Hole.” “I said, ‘Chris, a lot of people are asking me if I’m in the next ‘Batman.’ And Chris said, ‘Yes?’ I said, ‘Am I?’ He looked at me and he said, “No.” I was heartbroken. But Chris has his reasons and my life must go on.”

“Honestly, it was Heath’s movie to go on,” he added. “We had a great movie. I’m so honored to be a part of that movie. I know Chris has got something in store that is going to blow everybody away.”

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is NOT filming in New Orleans [Update]

"The Dark Knight Rises" will NOT be filming in Louisiana and that was never part of plan. It's a total myth. www.herocomplex.com #batman
@LATherocomplex
Geoff Boucher

The LA Times’ Hero Complex blog just tweeted confirmation that The Dark Knight Rises will not be filming in New Orleans. Christopher Nolan is very close to Hero Complex, and even revealed the title of his final Batman film in an interview with them a few weeks ago.

However the part of the tweet that I don’t think is accurate is where it says New Orleans was never “part of the plan”. I’ve spoke with someone in New Orleans who was competing to get a job on the film. Warner Bros. was definitely interested in shooting in New Orleans for tax breaks, and even scouted a few locations. The New Orleans deal wasn’t going to be finalized until February, and it looks like the deal fell through. I’m not the only person who heard about the possible New Orleans shoot. SuperHeroHype, ComingSoon.net, and Screen Rant (via a Nolan Fans podcast), to name a few, all heard about Warner Bros.’ interest in New Orleans.

Update 12/05/10: Geoff Boucher of Hero Complex has taken the time to clear up this New Orleans/Warner Bros. confusion in the comments section. Here’s what he had to say:

The sites great and thanks for all the link love!! I don’t want to sound argumentative but just to be clear:
Warner Bros is interested in keeping Chris Nolan happy at this point and I have no doubt that people on the very large payroll of Warners go around all the time and try to line up options for him. But really any “they” that was interested in New Orleans isn’t the “they” that makes decisions on this movie. If Emma Thomas says it was never ever discussed (which she did say) then I’m not really sure it merits this much discussion.

Nolan still working on script/casting, debunks CGI Joker rumor, confirms Hardy

Last night Warner Bros. held a party to celebrate the upcoming DVD / Blu-ray release of Inception. HitFix.com caught up with Christopher Nolan at the event, and asked for a status update on The Dark Knight Rises. Here’s an excerpt from the article:

[Christopher Nolan] also finds it hard to believe so many fans think he’s written, cast, shot and finished his films before he’s even started. In particular, “The Dark Knight Rising” at the moment, where he’s still just finishing the screenplay and hasn’t finished casting at all.  And make it clear Batman fans, this wasn’t Nolan just being humble for the sake of the press, he really thinks you all might be giving him just a bit too much credit.

THR also attended the event and asked Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas about the CGI Joker rumor that started to spread yesterday. Here’s what they had to say:

Nolan and his wife/producing partner Emma Thomas both swatted down the rumor to Heat Vision in a chat last night. “I heard the rumor,” said Thomas. “We’re not doing that.”

Nolan also denied that Ledger would show up in the new film. The script isn’t even completed yet, he said, and Nolan believes that Ledger’s performance as the Joker should be contained to the 2008 movie.

Since Nolan still hasn’t finished the script and casting, it looks like we won’t be getting that press release with the villains and a brief synopsis until early next year.

Update: Nolan sure did a lot of talking last night! Another report, this time from TOH, has Nolan confirming that Tom Hardy will join the cast of The Dark Knight Rises. When asked about Hardy’s involvement Nolan replied that it’ll be “a key role, not saying good or bad”.

Nolan excited to end his Batman saga with ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

It’s no surprise, but in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nolan called The Dark Knight Rises “the last chapter of our Batman saga”. When EW asked if Nolan wished he was working on an original script (like Inception) instead of the Batman sequel Nolan replied:

No, it’s exactly the opposite. I feel very glad that I’m doing another Batman film. I think it would have been daunting to sit down and write an original script after Inception. I love working within the realm and rules of our Batman world. It’s kind of nice to have someplace to go that I’m super-excited about.” He added that Inception’s success allows him to tackle another Batman without any sense of needing to prove himself: “I must say that I’m glad — I’m very, very glad — to be embarking on the last chapter of our Batman saga without any sense of obligation or duty to the studio. They did very well with Inception. So I’m able to go into finishing our story in a very enthusiastic way.

Christopher Nolan has been saying for a while in Batman related interviews that he wanted to wrap up his story with The Dark Knight Rises. One thing’s for sure, Warner Bros. is likely to have another hit on its hands. The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for a July 20th, 2012 release.

Poll: Joker cameo in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’? [Update: Warner Bros. responds]

Let me start this post by saying I don’t think there’s any truth to the following rumor. I’d like to get your opinion on it though, so I’m going to give you a brief summary and a poll to participate in. ShowBiz Spy is claiming that their sources say Christopher Nolan wants to pay tribute to Heath Ledger’s Joker by giving him a cameo in The Dark Knight Rises. This would be achieved by using extra footage from The Dark Knight, as well as some CGI.

It’s easy to dismiss this rumor since Nolan has stated multiple times that he wouldn’t feel comfortable having The Joker in his final Batman film. The idea is interesting though. What do you guys think? Vote in the poll below and discuss it in the comments.

Update: Warner Bros.’ response to this rumor? “It’s just not real”. [via Moviehole]
