Tom Hardy took a break from shooting his new movie Animal Rescue today to pose with a young fan who was dressed as Bane from The Dark Knight Rises. After watching his menacing performance last summer, it’s nice to see his softer side in real life.

Another day, another new photo from The Dark Knight Rises! Warner Bros. is releasing new photos almost daily on the official Facebook page for The Dark Knight Rises to build excitement around the December 4th Blu-ray release.

By now we’ve all seen The Dark Knight Rises and are eagerly awaiting the Blu-ray/DVD release on December 4th. That doesn’t mean Warner Bros. marketing is slowing down — it’s ramping up! We got to see a little bit of Bane’s backstory in The Dark Knight Rises, but according to costume designer Lindy Hemming, there was even more footage shot that never made it into the movie. Hemming, who still hasn’t seen the final cut of The Dark Knight Rises, talked about some of the deleted scenes involving Bane’s backstory in a recent interview with GQ:

The thing that you should have seen during that sequence is [Bane] being injured in his youth. So one of the fundamental things about his costume is that he has this scar from the back injury. Even if he hasn’t got the bulletproof vest on, he still has to wear the waist belt and the braces. In that scene in the prison, where he’s learning to fight the same way Batman learned to fight, he’s wearing an early version of his waist belt. It’s showing support, but it’s not the finished one he eventually wears. He’s also wearing an early version of his gas mask, all glued together … If you look at the film, unless they’ve cut it—and I’m sure they haven’t—there’s a whole early section for Tom Hardy where he’s fighting and being taunted by people. He’s got chains on him, and he’s standing on a wooden thing while people are attacking him. And in that scene, he’s wearing a much more ragged, primitive version of the mask.

When told that the scene didn’t make it into the final cut, Hemming added:

Well that’s an awful shame, but I suppose you have to cut things. I won’t elaborate on it too much, because it isn’t in the film, but there was another section that showed you why he had the mask and where it came from.

Concept artist Sebastian Lochmann shared some early designs of Bane’s back scarring but the scars ended up being much less severe in actual movie (unlike Bruce Wayne’s punishment, which was more serve).

Hopefully we’ll get to see these scenes when The Dark Knight Rises comes out on DVD and Blu-ray later this year. Don’t hold your breath though, Christopher Nolan is not known for including unused footage.

Comic book writer Chuck Dixon was thrilled when he heard that his co-creation Bane (writer Doug Moench and artist Graham Nolan are also credited with co-creating the character) would be the main villain in The Dark Knight Rises. Now that the movie is out, Philly.com interviewed Dixon to get his take on Bane’s portrayal in The Dark Knight Rises:

I am beyond glad that Nolan had the juice in Hollywood to stick to his guns. From interviews I’ve seen, it’s clear he understands the character and he gets what we were going for. It’s not exactly what I created, but he’s physically imposing and Tom Hardy is one hell of an actor. I can’t imagine Bane being better portrayed.

Christopher Nolan is throwing down the gauntlet. “We want this to be the most exciting film, the most emotionally engaging and enjoyable blockbuster that an audience can see this summer,” says the director of The Dark Knight Rises, the third and final chapter in the Inception helmer’s trilogy of Batman movies starring Christian Bale. In advance of the film’s release on July 20, Nolan and Bale sat down with Entertainment Weekly for separate interviews to talk about the making of Rises and the remarkable success of their collaboration. The new issue of EW, on sale later this week, also features exclusive new photos from the film.

The poster pictured on the right is getting a lot of buzz because Fandango released an IMAX version of it last night. A big Batman exposition has been taking place in Madrid, Spain this week, and Warner Bros. has various photos, costumes, and other promotional items on display from all three of Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies. Among these promotional materials are some never before seen still photos, and some really cool behind the scene shots from The Dark Knight Rises. Unfortunately these are pictures of pictures, so hopefully Warner Bros. releases them in HQ online very soon. They’re still really cool shots, so check them out in the gallery!
