Ever since the day Marion Cotillard was cast in The Dark Knight Rises, hardcore fans knew there had to be more to Miranda Tate than just a “Wayne Enterprises board member”. Of course, they were right… but Marion Cotillard had to keep the twist a secret while promoting Christopher Nolan’s Batman finale. That means she had to lie to MTV’s Josh Horowitz back in September 2011, and the two met again recently while Cotillard was promoting her new movie Rust and Bone. The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly features Batman and Bane on the cover, as well as some new interviews with Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale. Here’s a preview from EW.com:

Christopher Nolan is throwing down the gauntlet. “We want this to be the most exciting film, the most emotionally engaging and enjoyable blockbuster that an audience can see this summer,” says the director of The Dark Knight Rises, the third and final chapter in the Inception helmer’s trilogy of Batman movies starring Christian Bale. In advance of the film’s release on July 20, Nolan and Bale sat down with Entertainment Weekly for separate interviews to talk about the making of Rises and the remarkable success of their collaboration. The new issue of EW, on sale later this week, also features exclusive new photos from the film.

Speculation about Marion Cotillard’s character in The Dark Knight Rises began even before she officially joined the cast. Many fans believed (and still do) that she’d be Talia Al Ghul, the daughter of Liam Neeson’s character from Batman Begins. There’s a been a lot of information that would suggest Cotillard isn’t just playing Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member, but Cotillard insists that she’s a “good guy”. Check out this excerpt from an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

The actress started filming [The Dark Knight Rises] in June 2011, working on and off until the fall in locations including Los Angeles, New York and Pittsburgh. She says there were long gaps when she wasn’t needed: “It was a very, very small role.”

Otherwise, Cotillard is coy about the picture, whose storyline has fueled pages of Internet speculation. All she’ll confirm is that, contrary to some fans’ belief, she does not play Talia, the vengeful daughter of Liam Neeson‘s character, Ra’s Al Ghul (who also appeared in Batman Begins), and that she takes the role of Miranda Tate, an ecologically minded businesswoman who “is fascinated by Wayne Enterprises. They go through difficulties, and she wants to help provide the world clean energies. She’s a good guy.” But does she stay that way? “Yes,” she insists.

Josh Horowitz caught up with Marion Cotillard last night at the premiere of her new movie Contagion. Cotillard has been cast as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member, but fans have speculated that may just be a cover for her true identity. Horowitz asked if Cotillard is basing her The Dark Knight Rises role off of the comics, and here’s what she had to say:

Well, actually, it was not based off of a character in the comic,” she told us when we asked if she took cues for her character from the Batman comics. When we asked if she was telling us the truth, she answered with a smile: “Yes, I am.”

And if we talk to her in a year from now, will we be able to say she was lying to us? “No,” she said emphatically. “No!”

Well, there’s no sense in trying to hide it now. subaruwrxfan shot great 1080p video of three Tumblers driving to the set of The Dark Knight Rises in Pittsburgh. The Tumbler is sporting an unpainted camo look, as seen in Batman Begins. Lucious Fox did tell Bruce Wayne that there were more than one, and he’s certainly going to need a new one after The Joker destroyed the Batmobile in The Dark Knight. A few weeks ago, after months of speculation, we learned that Marion Cotillard would be joining The Dark Knight Rises cast as Miranda Tate. 24 Frames caught up with Cotillard recently and asked about her new role. Cotillard was light on the details, but did have this to say:

Asked by 24 Frames in a recent interview about her part in the film, Cotillard responded with a coy, “My role is a secret, as is the whole project.” So speculation about who she’ll actually be — from a love interest of Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne/Batman to a more shadowy character — can run riot.

Cotillard did offer some thoughts on why she joined the film — namely, a chance to reunite with Nolan. And she said she has a specific regard for Batman among pretty much all the superheroes out there.Just what is it about Batman that makes him so appealing to the actress? It’s that brooding thing. “I think it’s that he’s human,” Cotillard said. “He can’t really fly, and he doesn’t have superpowers. And he has that darkness inside.”

What could be so secret about a Wayne Enterprises board member, eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham? Perhaps there’s more to Ms. Tate than meets the eye. We’ll have to wait and see what impact she ends up having on Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight Rises.

After months of speculation we finally have confirmation on Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard. Warner Bros. just issued a press release confirming that Joseph Gordon will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon. Marion Cotillard will play Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.

BURBANK, CA, April 19, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have joined the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the epic conclusion to the Dark Knight legend.

Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.

Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.

The film reunites the actors with Christopher Nolan, who recently directed them in the award-winning blockbuster “Inception.”

The director stated, “When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again.”

Heading the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” Christian Bale stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The main cast also includes Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy as Bane.

Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Christopher Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
