Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announces Scribblenauts Unmasked – A DC Comics Adventure, a new game that melds the boundless creativity of the award-winning video game franchise with thousands of DC Comics™ characters and objects across DC Comics worlds — all drawn in the classic Scribblenauts art style. Created and developed by 5TH Cell, the game will be available for the Wii U™ system, Nintendo 3DS™ hand-held system and PC in North and South America and Australia this fall.

Scribblenauts Unmasked features a story where players embark as protagonist Maxwell on an imaginative and comical quest, taking them through GOTHAM CITY™, METROPOLIS™, ATLANTIS™ and other iconic locales from the DC Comics universe. In the game, Maxwell comes to the aid of BATMAN™, SUPERMAN™ and the rest of THE JUSTICE LEAGUE™ as they face the mightiest DC Comics Super Villains, such as THE JOKER™, LEX LUTHOR™ and SINESTRO™. Fueled by the player’s imagination, Maxwell must use his magic notebook to put a stop to the villains’ evil schemes and save the day!

Expanding on the video game franchise’s innovation, Scribblenauts Unmasked features for the first time dynamically created puzzles called Heroic Feats that increase the game’s replayability by continuously generating original scenarios requiring different solutions with each visit.

“Scribblenauts Unmasked includes action-packed missions with fan favorite DC Comics Super Heroes adding to the players’ puzzle solving experience as the beloved Maxwell,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Challenges in the game encourage broader player choices all set in well-known locations of the DC Comics universe, interacting in new and inventive ways with a wide range of popular DC Comics characters.”

“Fans of both DC Comics and Scribblenauts can really let their imaginations run wild with the Super Hero Creator in Scribblenauts Unmasked,” said Jeremiah Slaczka, C.E.O. and Creative Director of 5TH Cell. “Players will be challenged to craft new and never-before-seen characters such as Wonder Joker or Bane Lantern and use them to solve puzzles or share them with friends.”

A new Super Hero Creator tool available on Wii U and PC elevates the game’s creativity by giving players the ability to produce their own Super Hero or Super Villain using any item from the DC Comics universe and then setting properties for how it behaves, changing its appearance and powers. Players can then share their creations with the community and download others.

I would also like to list a few books for Batman fans to look for while they’re in the comic shop tomorrow. All of these make a great jumping on point to what’s happening right now. If you’ve been at all curious about reading comics, these books make a great way to ease yourself into what’s happening right now!

Batman #19

This is the first of a 2-part story about Clayface written and illustrated by one of the most highly regarded creative teams working in comics today. There’s some great detective work here and you’ll see just how formidable Clayface can be. In addition to they Clayface mystery, you’ll also enjoy a Batman/Superman team-up story featured in the back. If you like this issue you’ll only have to wait until Wednesday for Part II to come out and then next month we’ll have the start of Batman: Zero Year, which will be a year-long arc focusing on Bruce’s early years as Gotham’s watchful protector.

Nightwing #19

The Nightwing series heads in a bold new direction starting with issue #19. After learning that the man who killed his parents is still alive, Dick Grayson leaves Gotham on a quest for vengeance that leads him to Chicago where he is faced with a police force that will do whatever it takes to put a stop to masked vigilantes.

Legends of the Dark Knight #1-8

Any issue of this series you can get your hands on will be a safe purchase. Each one is a stand-alone story (or collection of stories) written and illustrated by an entirely new creative team in every installment for a fresh take on The Dark Knight every time. These tales take place outside of New 52 continuity and are easily accessible to new readers. Issues #1-3 are the very best.

Li’l Gotham #1

If you have kids, get them a copy of Li’l Gotham #1. It’s the best Batman book you can buy for a youngster and a great way to introduce them to the mythology you love but it’s not just kid-stuff. Adults will love Li’l Gotham, too. It’s a very funny and beautifully painted (it’s all done in vibrant watercolors) book that will put a smile on any Batfan’s face.

In addition to all the free comics, the creators of your favorite books will also be out signing autographs at their own local stores. Here’s a list of DC writers and artists and where they’ll be this Saturday. There’s no better time to get friends and family interested in comics!

While art director Jeremy Price and the rest of the team at Warner Bros. Games Montreal are looking to the previous Arkham titles for inspiration, they hope to leave their own mark with a couple of key differences. Since this is a prequel, Batman is a mysterious force in the streets of Gotham. Even the cops aren’t sure if he is a myth or supernatural. To emphasize this mystery and fear surrounding the character, the team is planning on amping up their use of silhouettes and film noir-esque low-key lighting to make him a more imposing figure. The developers are also taking advantage of the holiday setting for the game by creating Christmas decorations that are unique to the haunted world of Gotham City.
