Last night Warner Bros. held a party to celebrate the upcoming DVD / Blu-ray release of Inception. HitFix.com caught up with Christopher Nolan at the event, and asked for a status update on The Dark Knight Rises. Here’s an excerpt from the article:
[Christopher Nolan] also finds it hard to believe so many fans think he’s written, cast, shot and finished his films before he’s even started. In particular, “The Dark Knight Rising” at the moment, where he’s still just finishing the screenplay and hasn’t finished casting at all. And make it clear Batman fans, this wasn’t Nolan just being humble for the sake of the press, he really thinks you all might be giving him just a bit too much credit.
THR also attended the event and asked Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas about the CGI Joker rumor that started to spread yesterday. Here’s what they had to say:
Nolan and his wife/producing partner Emma Thomas both swatted down the rumor to Heat Vision in a chat last night. “I heard the rumor,” said Thomas. “We’re not doing that.”
Nolan also denied that Ledger would show up in the new film. The script isn’t even completed yet, he said, and Nolan believes that Ledger’s performance as the Joker should be contained to the 2008 movie.
Since Nolan still hasn’t finished the script and casting, it looks like we won’t be getting that press release with the villains and a brief synopsis until early next year.
Update: Nolan sure did a lot of talking last night! Another report, this time from TOH, has Nolan confirming that Tom Hardy will join the cast of The Dark Knight Rises. When asked about Hardy’s involvement Nolan replied that it’ll be “a key role, not saying good or bad”.
