42 Entertainment was the company behind the excellent viral marketing campaign for The Dark Knight. Many fans have been hoping that Warner Bros. would contact 42 Entertainment once again for The Dark Knight Rises. Unfortunately, MovieViral has heard from sources that 42 Entertainment will not be returning for another marketing campaign. Shortly after MovieViral’s article went up, they were contacted by a 42 Entertainment representative. Here’s what they had to say:
I was just contacted by someone who works with 42 Entertainment who tells me that all the major individuals (producers, writers, etc.) who worked on the Why So Serious campaign are in fact still with the company. Also, although 42E is not currently working on the TDKR campaign, Warner Bros. could still contact them later on. Given that the film isn’t set to release in theaters until July 20, 2012, the studio has some time to decide if they want work with 42E again.
And while we’re on the topic of The Dark Knight Rises viral marketing, I want everyone to know that the “Fire Rises” YouTube channel and videos that have been making their way around the internet are fan-made. I’ve been getting a lot of emails and tweets about the account, but it’s not coming from Warner Bros. and it’s certainly not coming from 42 Entertainment. That said, Warner Bros. hasn’t completely abandoned a viral campaign. There was a task that required 1000’s of Twitter users to tweet “#thefirerises” which eventually lead to the reveal of Tom Hardy as Bane. Hopefully we see some more of that in the coming months. For now, check out this article about The Dark Knight’s viral marketing and check out Why So Serious? Redux to relive all the best moments.
