Update: /Film reports that they’ve confirmed this story with multiple sources. The prologue will be 6 minutes, not 8 as reported previously.
A trusted source has alerted /Film that Warner Bros. plans to attach an eight minute prologue to The Dark Knight Rises to all IMAX prints of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. You may remember Warner Bros. did something similar back in 2007, when The Dark Knight’s bank robbery prologue was attached to the IMAX prints of I Am Legend. It made sense back then, The Dark Knight was the first feature film to be shot in IMAX, and Christopher Nolan wanted to give people a taste of what they could expect in summer of 2008. Attaching The Dark Knight Rises’ prologue to Mission: Impossible wouldn’t be an IMAX tech demo like it was in 2007, but it would be the coolest eight minute movie trailer you’ve ever seen!
If this rumor turns out to be true, you’ll be able to watch the first eight minutes of The Dark Knight Rises at your local IMAX theater beginning on December 16th. /Film reached out to Warner Bros. for clarification, but they declined to comment. I think I speak for everyone reading this when I say that I hope this happens! What do you think we’ll see in the opening scene for The Dark Knight Rises? Let me know in the comments!
