Owls, owls, owls everywhere! If you don’t like owls then get the **** out. May isn’t for you.
This month almost all of the Bat-titles are participating in the “Night of the Owls” crossover event that began in “Batman” and “Nightwing” last month. I say “almost” all Bat-titles because “Batwoman” decided to sit things out. Other than the owls attacking and Batwoman not being a team-player, we’ll also get a book that takes place in the Arkhamverse, another that takes place in the Beyond timeline, yet another alternate-universe title called “Earth Two” will kick off at issue #1, and Grant Morrison is returning with “Batman Incorporated” and we might as well look at that as its own universe as well because if any writer marches to the beat of his own drum, it’s Morrison. Take all of that into account plus the release of the new “Arkham City” DLC and the premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises” 3rd theatrical trailer and you’ve got yourself one hell of a Batman month.
Here’s a list of all the Batman comics coming out this week, May 2nd, graded on a scale of my own anticipation.
None. – I’ll get to it…eventually – Eh…meh. – Bring it. – TAKE MY MONEY

Batwing #9
Written by Judd Winick
Penciled by Marcus To
32 pages
$2.99
Batwing is still in Gotham when the owls attack so he lends the bat-family a hand. It’s kind of questionable how much help he’ll be though considering his first 8-part arc ended with Nightwing and Robin doing most of the work in bringing down that story’s villain. And then there was the time Batwing showed up in “Justice League International” to save Booster Gold only to get his ass kicked and Booster Gold ended up having to save him! One thing I am excited to see is what new artist Marcus To does with this book. I liked his work on the recent Huntress mini-series.
Anticipation Level: Eh…meh.
Detective Comics #9
Written by Tony Daniel
Penciled by Tony Daniel
40 pages
$3.99
There will be spittle. The constantly yelling Batman faces off with a Court of Owls Talon or two. If it’s anything like last month’s issue or any of the issues before it, then it likely won’t be worth your $3.99. I would rate my anticipation for this at “none”, but I’m hoping something cool will happen with the Owls cross-over.
Anticipation Level: Eh…meh
Earth Two #1
Written by James Robinson
Penciled by Nicola Scott
40 pages
$3.99
I honestly don’t know what to expect from this. It’s a weird alternate timeline/parallel universe sort of thing. I don’t know who Batman is, I don’t know why there’s a parallel universe, I don’t know anything about this and that’s why I’ll be picking it up. Curiosity.
Anticipation Level: Bring it.
World’s Finest #1
Written by Paul Levitz
Penciled by George Perez
32 pages
$2.99
Not really a Bat-title? Well, I’d say give it a shot anyway. Huntress is a Batman character after all. This book has Huntress and Power Girl (minus the trademark cleavage) getting in adventures on Earth one or two or three or whatever. Again, I’ll give it a shot, but the multiple Earths thing feels very unnecessary and a great way to add confusion to a rebooted New 52 universe that isn’t even a year old yet! I’m going to give all of this month’s 6 replacement books a chance. I’m especially looking forward to “Dial H”.
Anticipation Level: Bring it.
