Blah. The first week of the month: a great week for comics, but a terrible week for Batman comics. It’s the week we get “Sweet Tooth”, “Swamp Thing”, “Animal Man”, “Ultimate Spider-Man” and more, but it’s also the week of “Batwing” which has been very inconsistent and then there’s arguably the worst bat-title of all, “Detective Comics”. There’s a lot of great stuff worth going to the comic shop for this week, but none of it involves Batman.
The worst part is that this is all coming right after the release of “The Dark Knight Rises” which is surely attracting curious new readers and what they are finding is last week’s “Batman: The Dark Knight” which was mediocre at best and these two books, which I hope will be good, but I’m not gonna get my hopes up.
Here’s a list of all the Batman comics coming out this week, August 1st, graded on a scale of my own anticipation.
None. – I’ll get to it…eventually – Eh…meh. – Bring it. – TAKE MY MONEY

So Batwing needed Nightwing’s help when he took a trip to China and now, according to the solicits, Nightwing is going to lend a hand in Africa as well. I just don’t have any interest in reading a title featuring a hero who can’t do anything on his own. And if it wasn’t bad enough that he needed Nightwing’s aid, he’s apparently going to call in the Justice League International as well before taking on Lord Battle, the evil overlord of some made-up country…because, ya know, the continent of Africa is doing so well that we need to fabricate problems in order to tell a dramatic story.

We find out “the final fate of Charlotte Rivers and Hugh Marder”…but I don’t see why anyone would care. Also, Robin is said to guest-star here in the fight against Doctor Radon…or Professor Radium or something…I don’t know. It’s going to wrap up the 3-part arc, though. And the solicits say that the Two-Face backup story continues, but I thought that wrapped up last month. Either way, I don’t see why anyone would spend $4 bucks on this comic. It’s awful. The only thing worth looking forward to here is that it’s the last issue Tony S. Daniel will be writing.
