Upcoming Comics: August 8th, 2012

With the #0 issues coming up, many titles will be concluding their story arcs this month. This week we’ll see a one-shot about Parker Row, the end of Terminus, Batgirl vs. Batwoman, and fans of the Arkham City video game get an in depth look at the lives of Hammer and Sickle.

Here’s a list of all the Batman comics coming out this week, August 8th, graded on a scale of my own anticipation.

None.  –   I’ll get to it…eventually   –   Eh…meh.  –  Bring it.  –  TAKE MY MONEY

Anticipation Level: Bring it.

Before you flip a table over Greg Capullo not drawing things, know that Becky Cloonan is more than capable of handling this one-shot about Parker Row and Capullo will be back again next month with issue #0. Who is Parker Row? Hell if I know. All that anybody knows about this brand new character is that she found Batman freezing to death after escaping the Court of Owls and she shocked him back to life with some jumper cables. Batsy wasn’t only ungrateful, he was downright angry to see her pierced face again. This epilogue to The Court of Owls Saga will not only give us the answers we’ve been wanting about Parker, but it’ll show us what life is like in The Narrows. I’m intrigued.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #12

Written by PETER J. TOMASI

Art and cover by PATRICK GLEASON and MICK GRAY

32 pg

$2.99

Anticipation Level:   Eh…meh.

I think we’re all in agreement on this arc: we love the War of the Robins, but couldn’t care less about Terminus and his band of rejects. This is the conclusion of the 3-part arc and its quality will depend on which plot thread gets the most attention. If it’s Damian’s challenge to the other allies, it’ll be something worth looking forward to. If it’s one big battle with the Ivan Ooze/Juggernaut wannabe then it might be worth skipping.

BATGIRL #12

Written by GAIL SIMONE

Art by ARDIAN SYAF and VICENTE CIFUENTES

Cover by STANLEY “ARTGERM” LAU

32 pg

$2.99

Anticipation Level:   Bring it.

James Jr. is definitely up to something, Batwoman is finally making a cameo in another bat-title to remind us that she’s technically part of the family, and the new villain named Knightfall is about to strike! Writer Gail Simone is definitely upping the ante.

BATMAN: ARKHAM UNHINGED #5

Written by DEREK FRIDOLFS

Art by JUAN JOSE RYP

Cover by DAVE WILKINS

40 pg

$2.99

Anticipation Level:   Eh…meh.

Last month’s issue was absolutely terrible so here’s hoping that things improve and fast. In issue #5 we’ll learn more about Hammer and Sickle, the big lugs who worked for Joker and the Penguin in the Arkham City video game. Hush could make an appearance as well in this series that takes place outside of the New 52 universe. Of course, if you don’t want to wait, you could always click on over to Comixology.com and buy these chapters. They’ve been available online for months.
