Anticipation Level:   Interested

It’s about time we turn our focus back to Ignatius Ogilvy. Not only does Batman finally take the fight to “Emperor Penguin” but we get a backup story that’s all about Ogilvy’s origin. This series has had consistently great art and interesting stories so I expect another quality issue.

BATWING18

BATWING #18

Written by FABIAN NICIEZA
Art and cover by FABRIZIO FIORENTINO
On sale MARCH 6 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

Anticipation Level:   Ambivalent

It’s kind of hard to get invested in this book. I was just starting to like the way Fabian and Fabrizio were handling this book and then we got hit with the announcement that Batwing would be undergoing yet another change of creative team. Not only that but Batwing would be getting an entirely new suit, new direction, and it might not even be David under the armor! I can’t really get excited about issue #18 because I’m not sure if it even matters anymore.

LegendsofTDK06

LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT #6

Written by JEFF PARKER, MICHAEL AVON OEMING and ROB WILLIAMS
Art by GABRIEL HARDMAN, MICHAEL AVON OEMING and JUAN JOSE RYP
Cover by GUILLEM MARCH
On sale MARCH 6 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T
Anticipation Level:   Interested

It’s another bundle of three stories for $3.99! These unique stories by three different creative teams all take place outside of the New 52 continuity and require no extra reading on your part. If you’ve never picked up an issue of Legends of The Dark Knight before then you need not worry! Story #1 follows four armed robbers who get mixed up with Batman, story #2 has something to do with a dragon (I… I don’t know what that’s all about but it doesn’t sound right), and story #3 is even more vague because the solicitations only say that a terrifying new killer is coming to Gotham. After facing down a dragon though I think the Caped Crusader can handle just about anything. The hook for each of these stories isn’t that thrilling sounding, but LoTDK hasn’t had a bad issue yet.

Graphic Novel Watch!

All-Star Western Vol. 2: The War of Lords and Owls

  • In case you didn’t know, the comic All-Star Western also takes place in Gotham but it’s way back in the old west days and even then Gotham was being plagued by the Court of Owls. This $16.99 softcover includes issues #7-12 of Jonah Hex and Jeremiah Arkham’s adventures.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight

  • This is one of those Batman stories that I’m ashamed to say I have never read. It’s supposedly a classic. An elseworld tale from 1989 about a Victorian-era Dark Knight who is on the trail of none other than Jack the Ripper. This re-release is 112 pages long and goes on sale for $12.99. I’m very excited to pick this up and finally have one more book off the bucket-list of beloved Bat-stories.
