Upcoming Comics: April 10th, 2013

Bruce pulls a gun on someone, Batman’s teaming up with a new ally, and Batgirl finally faces off against her crazy brother in this month’s gatefold Batman comics! Plus, if you’re looking for something outside the New 52, you can also enjoy the first printed issue of Li’l Gotham which is incredibly kid friendly and the ongoing Arkham City series, Arkham Unhinged, which has a gang war between Joker, Penguin, and Black Mask.

Here’s a list of all the Batman comics coming out this week, April 10th, graded on a scale of my own anticipation.

This series is on fire right now but I had a few preview pages of this book spoiled for me and it’s got me a bit leery.

Spoiler
I saw Batman fighting alongside Frankenstein. I’ve always heard great things about the character…but I’d rather keep the rest of the DC Universe out of this series while Bruce deals with the loss of Damian

Judging by the gatefold cover that I had spoiled for me via email, I think this is going to be about

Spoiler
Clayface
and I hope I’m right because that character deserves a good story. Issue #19 kicks off a short 2-part detective story that should be a nice change of pace from the usual 6-11 part arcs we’ve seen from this series. I’m really excited to get a nice, short story. I wish we could get more 2-3 part arcs in our Batman comics.

Batgirl19

BATGIRL #19

Written by GAIL SIMONE
Art by DANIEL SAMPERE and VICENTE CIFUENTES
Fold-out cover by EDDY BARROWS and EBER FERREIRA
On sale APRIL 10 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

Anticipation Level:   Ambivalent

Gail Simone is back and we’ll see Barbara and James Jr. FINALLY go head-to-head. I’m just glad to see this confrontation happen. It’s been hyped for far too long.

ArkhamUnhinged13

BATMAN: ARKHAM UNHINGED #13

Written by DEREK FRIDOLFS
Art and cover by ERIC NGUYEN
On sale APRIL 10 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T

Anticipation Level:   I’d rather not

This could very well be the last month I write reviews for this title. I’m just not getting any joy out of it anymore. Issue #13 promises an epic gang war between Joker, Penguin, and Black Mask but even that’s not getting me excited about what this series has to offer.

BATMAN: LI’L GOTHAM #1

Art by DUSTIN NGUYEN and DEREK FRIDOLFS
Cover by DUSTIN NGUYEN
1:10 Variant cover by CHRIS BURNHAM
On sale APRIL 10 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED E

Anticipation Level:   TAKE MY MONEY

I’ve already reviewed these three short holiday specials when they came out digitally so I know they are good and an absolute must-buy for your kids! It’s great to finally see it come to print and I really, really love the Chris Burnham variant cover. Issue #1 collects the Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas spectacular.

GRAPHIC NOVEL WATCH!

One of the biggest New 52 graphic novels yet collects all the remaining Tony Daniel issues of Detective Comics in Scare Tactics, which collects issue #0, 8-12, and the Detective Comics Annual. It’s a whopper and will set you back $30 bucks.
