What’s coming out this week? Almost everything apparently AND I hear Suicide Squad is performing well under its new creative team, too! With this many good-sounding books heading your way, your wallet may be taking a pretty big hit and July has hardly even started yet.
Here are the review comics coming out this week, July 10th, graded on a scale of my own anticipation.
Hell no! – I’d rather not – Ambivalent – Interested – TAKE MY MONEY

It’s been hyped up for 2 years now so hell yeah I’m excited for Trinity War. This is the very first chapter in the action-mystery event that will rock the entire DC universe and pit all three Justice Leagues against one another. Let’s do this!
BATMAN #22
Written by SCOTT SNYDER
Art by GREG CAPULLO and DANNY MIKI
Backup story art by RAFAEL ALBUQUERQUE
Cover by GREG CAPULLO
1:25 Variant cover by MIKEL JANIN
1:100 B&W cover by GREG CAPULLO
On sale JULY 10 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US
RATED T • Combo pack edition: $4.99 US
Anticipation Level: TAKE MY MONEY
I thoroughly enjoyed the first chapter of Zero Year and I have no reason to not expect the same level of quality this month. Will we get more from Edward Nygma? What about the Red Hood Gang? And how about that post-apocalyptic Batman with the motorcycle and purple gloves? One thing’s for sure… I’m still crossing my fingers for an appearance by Leslie Thompkins, dammit!
BATGIRL #22
Written by GAIL SIMONE
Art by FERNANDO PASARIN and JONATHAN GLAPION
Cover by ALEX GARNER
On sale JULY 10 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
Anticipation Level: Ambivalent
These Alex Garner covers are breathtaking, but you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and I’ve found Batgirl to be iffy and overly blood-soaked. All I know about this issue right now is that Barbara is still struggling with whether or not she wants to be Batgirl so hopefully we’ll rein in the gore and get some good moments with Barbara and her friends and family. I just want to have fun in a Batgirl comic, is that too much to ask? This title is always so depressing…
NIGHTWING #22
Written by KYLE HIGGINS
Art by WILL CONRAD
On sale JULY 10 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
Anticipation Level: Interested
Nightwing has been a must-read ever since the character moved to Chicago, but a big part of the books appeal has been the work of new artist Brett Booth. With him leaving the book for Justice League of America, I’m a little nervous but hopefully the quality of the writing remains high and Will Conrad proves to be a worthy replacement. Expect to see big things from Prankster, who slipped out of Nightwing’s cuffs at the end of issue #21.
BATMAN: ARKHAM UNHINGED #16
Written by KAREN TRAVISS • Art by RICCARDO BURCHIELLI
Cover by CHRISTOPHER MITTEN
On sale JULY 10 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T • DIGITAL FIRST
Anticipation Level: Interested
She’s done a lot of Halo, Gears of War, and Star Wars stuff but now best-selling author Karen Traviss is taking on the most popular video game incarnation of Batman. There aren’t many issues of Arkham Unhinged left, but I’m interested to see what Traviss brings to the table. This issue will deal with the political chaos that lead up to the construction of Arkham City and introduce a villain called The Bookbinder.
BATMAN: LI’L GOTHAM #4
Written by DEREK FRIDOLFS and DUSTIN NGUYEN
Art and cover by DUSTIN NGUYEN
“We Can Be Heroes” Blank variant cover available
On sale JULY 10 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED E • DIGITAL FIRST
Anticipation Level: Interested
I like Li’l Gotham a lot, but I quit reading it digitally when the printed editions started hitting comic shops. That means I’ve been seeing the same stories again for the past 3 months and I’m very eager to see what I’ve been missing! Issue #4 features a St. Patrick’s Day celebration and an Easter special featuring Mad Hatter. Damn, that would’ve been the perfect opportunity to use Egghead!
Graphic Novel Watch!
There aren’t any Batman graphic novels out this week, but I spent the 4th of July holiday catching up on a big stack of them so expect a few extra reviews to pop up this week.
