David Goyer on possible Batman/Superman titles (video)

If you’ve been living under a rock this past weekend, let me be the first to tell you that we’re getting a Batman/Superman movie in 2015! You can watch director Zack Snyder make the announcement here.

Shortly after that announcement on Saturday, there was a Superman 75th Anniversary panel at Comic-Con which Batman News‘ Andrew Asberry attended. David Goyer, who co-wrote all three of Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies and most recently Man of Steel, was on the panel. He knows these characters and seems like the perfect guy to write a Batman/Superman movie. During the Superman 75th Anniversary panel Goyer talked a bit about the upcoming Batman/Superman project:

The next film we’re making, we’re already in pre-production, comes out in summer of 2015 and it’s–we’re actually not sure whether the title is Superman vs. Batman or Batman vs. Superman but yes, it’s–that rematch, that combination, the two guys onscreen and that’s happening.

I also have to say I grew up reading these comics and read The Dark Knight Returns when it came out. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d be writing Batman: ‘blah blah blah’ … Superman: ‘blah blah blah’. That’s crazy!

Goyer’s comments seem to suggest that Batman and Superman will be enemies for most of the movie, rather than friends. Of course I expect them to “kiss and make up” by the end of the movie, but it sounds like we could be getting 2 hours of Batman beating up Superman (and maybe a little bit of Superman beating up Batman too). His comments also seem to suggest possible titles…

Warner Bros. has owned the domain names BatmanVsSuperman.com and SupermanVsBatman.com since 2001, and BatmanVsVupermanMovie.com since 2002. Could they finally be putting these to use for the upcoming 2015 movie? I think Batman vs Superman seems a bit too simple, but it certainly would let people know what they’re about to see. Hopefully it’s not long before Warner Bros. announces the official title, and the new actor who will be playing Batman!
