Earlier this week news broke that Warner Bros. was looking for an older Batman for Batman vs. Superman and now thanks to the The Hollywood Reporter we have some contenders! THR confims that the studio wants Batman to be around 40 years old in their story, which will be influenced by Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns” graphic novel. The script is still being written, so there haven’t been any formal offers, however director Zack Snyder is beginning to look at actors for the part of Batman. Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, and Joe Manganiello are the top names… let’s take a closer look.
Josh Brolin
Josh Brolin is 45 years old. According to THR, Warner Bros likes him a lot. He recently starred in their movie Gangster Squad, and he’ll be in Sin City: A Dame to Kill next year, which is based on comics by Frank Miller. Two sources tell THR that Brolin is the favorite at this stage.
Ryan Gosling
Ryan Gosling is only 32 years old. Like Brolin, he starred in Gangster Squad. He may not be in his late 30s or early 40s, but he can act and is being considered for the role.
Joe Manganiello
Joe Manganiello is 36 years old. According to THR’s sources, Zack Snyder liked him as a possible Superman for Man of Steel before choosing Henry Cavill for the part. Could he be the next Batman?
THR also lists Richard Armitage, Matthew Goode, and Max Martini as potential candidates for the part of Batman. The casting process is expected to pick up within the next month or two.
