Report: how Ben Affleck was cast as Batman in ‘Batman vs. Superman’

Runner, Runner

Behind-the-scenes reports of Warner Bros. blockbuster Batman casting announcement are starting to come online. The Hollywood Report did some digging and came up with a few details as to why Ben Affleck decided to play Batman in Batman vs. Superman.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the process began earlier this year when director Zack Snyder had finished working on Man of Steel with producer Christopher Nolan. Snyder and the studio already had ideas for a follow-up, and Snyder reached out to Affleck to check the star’s interest.

But Affleck was curious, and initial talks focusing on story and character began. Once Affleck was satisfied, WME’s Patrick Whitesell and Ziffren Brittenham’s Sam Fischer began negotiating his role in the Superman sequel. Sources say that Affleck has been signed for multiple other movies. The talks were so secretive that many Warner execs and most WME agents remained unaware of their existence.

There’s a lot of speculation that Ben Affleck may even direct the new solo Batman movies after 2015’s Batman vs. Superman. He loves to star in movies that he directs… just look at The Town or Argo. That may be why he signed on for multiple movies.

Another interesting tidbit to come out of THR’s report is the fact that Christopher Nolan, the “Godfather” of Man of Steel, offered the directing job to Ben Affleck back in 2010. When Affleck declined, Zack Snyder was hired for the Superman movie.

Love him or hate him, the good news is we’ll be able to hear from Batman himself very soon. Ben Affleck has a new movie coming out in early October, so expect a flood of Batman related interviews to come out next month as he does promotion. As always, Batman News will have you covered with all the latest from Affleck and Batman vs. Superman!
