BATMAN #23.2: THE RIDDLER

Written by SCOTT SNYDER and RAY FAWKES
Art by JEREMY HAUN
3-D motion cover by GUILLEM MARCH
On sale SEPTEMBER 11 • 32 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T

Anticipation Level:   TAKE MY MONEY

The Riddler’s origin and more Zero Year developments. Yes, I’m excited for this one. Snyder has done a great job writing this character so far in the ongoing Batman series and I’m eager to see how Edward Nygma became The Riddler.

BatmanRobin23

BATMAN AND ROBIN #23.2: THE COURT OF OWLS

Written by JAMES TYNION IV
Art by JORGE LUCAS
3-D motion cover by PATRICK GLEASON and MICK GRAY
On sale SEPTEMBER 11 • 32 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T

Anticipation Level:   Interested

“The Court of Owls takes stock of the new world order created in the wake of Forever Evil! What horrors will they unleash in order to maintain control!” This one isn’t a flash-back origin story and actually sounds a bit more ambitious. However, if there’s any villain out there whose motivations actually need to be made clear it’s The Court of Owls, who are basically just evil for the sake of being evil and want to control everything so they can… what? Aren’t they already fantastically wealthy and their members all major power players in various cities?

BatmanTDK23

BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #23.2: MR. FREEZE

Written by JUSTIN GRAY and JIMMY PALMIOTTI
Art by JASON MASTERS
3-D motion cover by GUILLEM MARCH
On sale SEPTEMBER 11 • 32 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T

Anticipation Level:   Ambivalent

I don’t like the New 52 design of Mr. Freeze and I don’t like the New 52 origin for Mr. Freeze, but the artwork for this one looks good and Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti can write a pretty fun comic.

DetectiveComics23

DETECTIVE COMICS #23.2: HARLEY QUINN

Written by MATT KINDT
Art by NEIL GOOGE
3-D motion cover by CHRIS BURNHAM
On sale SEPTEMBER 11 • 32 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T

Anticipation Level:   Interested

I hated how Harley Quinn’s origin was changed for the New 52, but with Mind MGMT author Matt Kindt revisiting the subject in this issue I’m a little hopeful that he might fix some of the damage. Not only will we see more of Harley’s early days with the Joker, but we’ll  get a better idea of how she was recruited for the Suicide Squad.

ArkhamUnhinged18

BATMAN: ARKHAM UNHINGED #18

Written by KAREN TRAVISS
Art by FEDERICO DALLOCCHIO
Cover by CHRISTOPHER MITTEN
1:10 DC COLLECTIBLES PHOTO VARIANT COVER
On sale SEPTEMBER 11 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T • DIGITAL FIRST

Anticipation Level:   Ambivalent

“Gotham City’s corrupt food inspector becomes a pawn of the Bookbinder. Now, the mysterious vigilante will use him to convince the populace that its beef supply is contaminated. As businesses panic, Batman races to discover his enemy’s true identity.” This saga is going to lead us all the way to the conclusion of the Arkham Unhinged series and at best I’d say it’s mildly entertaining. However, new writer Karen Traviss has done a better job using Gordon and the GCPD than perhaps any of the New 52 authors.

LilGotham6

BATMAN: LI’L GOTHAM #6

Written by DEREK FRIDOLFS and DUSTIN NGUYEN
Art and cover by DUSTIN NGUYEN
On sale SEPTEMBER 11 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED E • DIGITAL FIRST

Anticipation Level:   Interested

Li’l Gotham is fairly reliable for delivering great art and a few chuckles. This installment is all about family, featuring both the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day specials. Nowhere else will you see a story that shows Jim and Barbara Gordon sharing a table with Ra’s and Talia al Ghul.
