Upcoming Comics: October 23rd, 2013

A video game tie-in, a cartoon tie-in, the origin of Clayface, the invasion of Gotham, and the answer to what happened to the Justice League.

Here are the review comics coming out this week, October 23rd, graded on a scale of my own anticipation.

Upcoming Comics: October 23rd

BatmanTDK24

BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #24

Written by GREGG HURWITZ
Art and cover by ALEX MALEEV
1:25 B&W Variant cover by ALEX MALEEV
On sale OCTOBER 23 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

Anticipation Level:   I’d rather not

“This is still going on?” Clayface was locked up at the end of last…er…August’s issue, but apparently that’s not the end of the story. This issue promises to tell the origin of Clayface and if it turns out to be another troubled childhood story I’m gonna lose my ****. (While Joker, Clayface, and Two-face didn’t have their origins retold during Villains Month like everybody else it appears they’re making up for lost time here in October)

JusticeLeague24

JUSTICE LEAGUE #24

Written by GEOFF JOHNS
Art and cover by IVAN REIS and JOE PRADO
1:25 Variant cover by AARON KUDER
1:100 B&W Variant cover by IVAN REIS and JOE PRADO
On sale OCTOBER 16 • 32 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T
Combo pack edition: $4.99 US

Anticipation Level:   Interested

I thought last week’s JLA really dragged its feet as if it didn’t want to step on the toes of Geoff Johns’ A-list Justice League squad’s story. So here’s hoping we get some answers and some plot development with this installment. I still believe that Forever Evil has potential to be a great story if the folks behind it don’t stretch it too thin.

Talon12

TALON #12

Written by JAMES TYNION IV
Art by EMANUEL SIMEONI
Cover by KEN HUNT
On sale OCTOBER 23 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

Anticipation Level:   Ambivalent

Calvin Rose is in a race against time to stop Bane’s invasion of Gotham and that should be very exciting except we already know the end result due to what’s been going on in Forever Evil and Arkham War. If this can catch up to those other works and present something new then it should be a worthwhile read.

Injustice10

INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US #10

Written by TOM TAYLOR
Art by JHEREMY RAAPACK, MIKE S. MILLER and TOM DERENICK
Cover by MICO SUAYAN
1:10 DC Collectibles Photo cover
On sale OCTOBER 23 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T • DIGITAL FIRST

Anticipation Level:   Interested

Superman is about to announce to the world that Batman is really Bruce Wayne and Batman is planning to shut down the Justice League’s satellite headquarters. Cool. This comic is raising the bar for video game tie-ins and is one of the most consistently good reads you can find.

BewareTheBatman1

BEWARE THE BATMAN #1

Written by IVAN COHEN
Art and cover by LUCIANO VECCHIO
1:25 Animation art variant cover
On sale OCTOBER 23 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED E

Anticipation Level:   Interested

I’m going to review issue #1 and then hold off on all future installments until there’s a TPB, but as a fan of the cartoon I want to get the word out about this new, all-ages series.

 Graphic Novel Watch!

Absolute Luthor/Joker by Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo is out and I’m sure it’ll be awesome, but who has the $99.99 to spend on it?

Batgirl, Vol. 3: Death of the Family featuring issues #14-19 plus the short story from Young Romance #1.

Suicide Squad, Vol. 3: Death is for Suckers collecting issues #14-19 plus the Death of the Family tie-in.
