Upcoming Comics: December 24th, 2013

Comic Book Wednesday falls on Christmas this year so with all the comic shops being closed, every publisher is moving up release dates to Christmas Eve. However, since that’s still pretty inconvenient for most folks, DC is only releasing 2 books this Tuesday: Forever Evil #4 and Justice League #26.

Here are the review comics coming out this week, December 24th, graded on a scale of my own anticipation:

Hell no!  –   I’d rather not   –   Ambivalent  –  Interested  –  TAKE MY MONEY

Scroll to the bottom of the page and post in the comments section what books you’re most looking forward to this week! Also, if you have any suggestions for a new “Anticipation Level” chart for 2014, feel free to post those in the comments section as well. I like “TAKE MY MONEY” though, that’ll probably stay.

I got so used to this being a week one title that I had to sit here for a moment and think pretty hard about what happened exactly in issue #3… Oh yeah! Captain Cold, Lex Luthor, Black Manta, and Black Adam all conveniently ended up in the same place and formed an alliance to bring down the Crime Syndicate, which is nice. And after seeing Nightwing make his own unlikely partnership with Owlman in the delayed Justice League #25, I’m intrigued. I expect this chapter to be a real turning point for the series and DC’s own synopsis says that there will be a Batman vs. Lex Luthor fight, so that’s worth checking out as well.

This series doesn’t have much to do with the Justice League anymore, but that’s okay because it’s actually serving as a much-deserved Forever Evil tie-in. The past two issues have taken us deep into the backstory of both Ultraman and Owlman so, as you can expect, the latest issue will explore the origin of yet another member of The Crime Syndicate, an evil Justice League from the Earth 3 dimension. Who’s next up to the plate? Power Ring, the cowardly Green Lantern with a gangrenous looking hand. I’m excited to see what Geoff Johns has planned for the character because while Superwoman, Owlman, and Ultraman have been more or less the same as they were depicted in Grant Morrison’s “Earth 2,” Power Ring has been quite different thus far.
