‘Gotham’ TV series will feature Batman, Joker, Catwoman, Riddler, and more

Last fall when the first details about FOX’s new show Gotham leaked, it was described as an origin story for Commissioner Gordon. Today at a Television Critics Association press event, FOX Chairman of Entertainment Kevin Reilly revealed that it would be much more than that. Gotham is actually an origin story for Bruce Wayne, and will have a Christopher Nolan style tone.

Reilly confirmed that Bruce Wayne will indeed appear as Batman on Gotham’s final episode. “The actor will grow-up, if we do our job well he’ll be a young man and ready [to be Batman] by the end, which isn’t to say we might not skip ahead.” Bruce is expected to be about 13 years old in the first episode.

Gordon will still play a big part in the show, but so will Batman’s most famous villains. We’ll see the early careers and origins of The Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, The Riddler, and more. “We’re not starting in that world where the villains are in costume. You see markers for it that are kind of delicious. You begin to see the evolution of the eccentricities that become those characters, but you really sort of arc there. We don’t start out in capes and costumes.” Reilly explained.

Lastly, Reilly confirmed that Gotham will be separate from Batman vs. Superman, and anything else Warner Bros. does on the big screen. So there won’t be any TV/movie crossovers.

Gotham is expected to start shooting its first episode in March, so casting news should be out soon. It’s expected to premiere later this fall, but no exact date has been announced yet. It sure sounds very interesting, especially after today’s news. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
