It looks like Superman won’t be the only one getting a new look in Batman vs. Superman. Costume designer Michael Wilkinson told The New York Times that he’s honored to get a chance to create a new look for an iconic character like Wonder Woman.
I have been given the opportunity to tackle a wide range of genres with my work: big superheroes, gritty contemporary, epic period, science fiction. It keeps me stimulated and challenged as an artist. At the moment, I’m designing the costumes for ‘Batman vs. Superman.’ It’s an honor to be creating new looks for such iconic characters as Wonder Woman. The interesting thing is that my approach is always the same, no matter the genre or the period. I’m using the same tools — silhouette, fabric, color, drape – to help tell the story and illuminate the inner life of the characters.
Wilkinson previously mentioned that he would be making some tweaks to Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel Superman costume. And then there’s the costume we’re all waiting to see… Ben Affleck’s Batsuit. Kevin Smith already got a good look at it, and described it as something we’ve never seen in a movie before. As far as Wonder Woman’s “new” look, it’s been rumored that she’ll be wearing armor. The real question on everyone’s mind is… will she have pants too? It won’t be long until we find out. Batman vs. Superman starts shooting in just a few weeks, and the buzz is that we’ll get the first official photos very soon!
