For months many fans were incredibly jealous of Kevin Smith. Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder showed him a picture of Ben Affleck as Batman back in November, and Smith wasn’t shy about talking about it publicly. Last week fans were on an even playing field when the first photo of Ben Affleck as Batman was released…kind of. The photo we saw was awesome, but it was in black white. Kevin Smith saw a different photo last year and it was in full color. He talked all about it on episode #168 of his Hollwood Babble-On podcast:
As you may remember I saw a photo of the Batsuit many months ago and a lot of people asked online “is that the picture you saw”? No. That is a very cool picture but that’s not the picture I saw. They put it on a fake rooftop and they lit it and stuff like that, but it was in color and you could see every piece of detail.
I’ve seen some people online go “why is this f***ing suit any different than the Chris Nolan Batsuit it’s all one f***ing color”. It’s like dude that’s a monochrome photo. You know what that means? One chrome. That’s not a representation of what the suit looks like.
So what the suit looks like… and I was always kind of keeping it quiet until they revealed it, but they’ve f***ing revealed it. You can kind of see and you’ve seen some people take the picture and color it online. If you want to see what this f***ing suit looks like, you just go to Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns”, go to the third book, Hunt the Dark Knight…it’s the exact f***ing outfit he’s wearing. That’s why I hugged that guy all those months ago.”
When Smiths’s co-host Ralph Garman complained that the Batmobile looked too much like the Tumbler, Smith teased, “I will put this to you. What if it’s one of a few Batmobiles? What if that’s one of a few outfits in the movie? I suspect that’s the case.” Listen to Kevin Smith’s full comments at the 1:44:55 mark below. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about multiple Batsuits. There was a rumor earlier this year that said Ben Affleck would also wear an armored Batsuit, similar to what he wore at the end of “The Dark Knight Returns”. Speaking of “The Dark Knight Returns”, here’s a photo of the Batsuit from issue #3 — “Hunt the Dark Knight” — which Kevin Smith says looks exactly like the Batsuit that was revealed last week.
