November 2014 Solicitations

Apologies for posting this a little late. I intended to get it to you guys sooner. You have my permission to call me a slacker in the comments, just be nice and add a positive adjective in front of the word “slacker.” I’m definitely open to anything along the terms of “funny slacker,” “cute slacker,” “cool slacker” or something else that you feel is appropriate. Haha!

On to business! DC released their official solicitations for November of this year, and I’m bringing them here to you! Be warned, this whole post is practically one large spoiler! If you don’t want to have a glimpse into the future, then don’t read any further. I’m serious! I’m not putting a full post in Spoiler Tags, so you’ve been warned. Turn back now!

Alright, if you’re still with me, below you’ll find the solicitations for each issue, as well as the cover art (if DC has released it). The titles aren’t listed in any particular order (accept how DC had them listed on their site – which is mostly alphabetical). I’m not putting the talent credits in this post because there’s already a ton of information here. But you know me… I can’t post anything without adding my two cents, so you’ll see some of my randomness for a few titles. Make sure you give me a piece of your mind in the comments as well! I want to hear what you’re excited about, worried about, your predictions, etc… If you have something to say, I want to know!

November 2014 Solicitations

Arkham Manor 2
Arkham Manor
#2
When Batman goes undercover in Arkham Manor, we learn just how important inmate Jack Shaw is to his mission.

Release Date: 11/26

Ummm…. Zsasz! I think Zsasz could be one of the scariest villains in the Rogue’s Gallery, if he’s given the opportunity, and is used correctly. Add in the fact that this book is supposed to contain a horror element, makes this even better! I can’t wait until this title launches!

Batman Superman 16
Batman/Superman
#16
New artist Ardian Syaf joins the hit series as a mystery begins! An unseen terror launches deadly strikes against major cities…and the only clue is Kryptonite! Can Batman and Superman bring an invisible foe to justice before more damage is done?

Release Date: 11/19

Hey! It’s a new artist! Maybe this book will start getting released on time… You know, when this issue is allowed to come out in March. (Sorry Jae, I love your work, but deadlines!)

Batman Eternal 31
Batman Eternal #31
The team-up you never saw coming – Alfred Pennyworth and…Bane?!

Release Date: 11/5

Batman Eternal #32
The Spoiler is on the case to find the truth behind the nightmare at Arkham!

Release Date: 11/12

Batman Eternal #33
Batman’s arsenal of weapons is turned against Gotham City!

Release Date: 11/19

Batman Eternal #34
Is this the end of Wayne Enterprises?

Release Date: 11/26

Hmmm…. Can I have these issues now? I’m excited to see someone decent write Bane in the New 52! The guy deserves better than what he’s been getting. And Alfred front and center? Heck. Yes.

Also, if you haven’t seen the cover art for Eternal #25… Huge spoilers (granted, somewhat obvious if you’ve been putting two and two together…)

Spoiler

Eternal 25

Batman 36
Batman #36
“Endgame,” part 2 – it’s a story arc so steeped in mystery, all we can tell you is the title!

Release Date: 11/12

I still don’t think this is the actual cover. And speaking of Endgame, Capullo posted some art to his Twitter page recently. I’m not sure how I feel about it…

Spoiler

Capullo 1
Capullo 2

Nothing was said about this being from “Endgame,” but I’m not quite sure what else the art could be for… unless they’re trying to throw us off. That, or Capullo is a sick man that is getting a good laugh over everyone freaking out about some doodle he did. I mean, Batman’s hand is missing! That’s not cool – on a number of levels. I’m desperately hoping this isn’t the direction of “Endgame” because I feel it reaches the point of trying too hard. Good storytelling doesn’t need over-the-top plots 24/7. (Crossing my fingers.)

Batman & Robin 36
Batman and Robin #36
“Robin Rises” continues as Batman and his allies make their push toward the heart of Apokolips!

Release Date: 11/19

THIS COVER! I dig it! So question time… 1. Do you think Damian will come back (not necessarily in this issue, just in general)? 2. Do you think he will be Robin again? I don’t know why, but I feel like Damian will come back, but I don’t think he’ll be Robin. Not sure why, it’s just how I feel.

Batgirl 36
Batgirl # 36
Batgirl’s new life is off to a rousing start when her first day of graduate school is interrupted – by twin sister assassins on motorcycles!

Release Date: 11/12

I’m going to give this new creative team a fair chance, but they’ve kind of lost me at “twin sister assassins on motorcycles!” It sounds like a bad, bad movie. I’m crossing my fingers that I’m wrong.

Batwoman 36Batwoman #36
“Batwoman and the Unknowns” continues as Batwoman crosses paths with the mysterious Jason Blood.

Release Date: 11/19

I just don’t know anymore. This month’s issue was technically the last issue of the current arc, but there wasn’t an end to it. I’m starting to think Andreyko doesn’t know how to tell a complete story. I thought he was keeping characters around to continue utilizing and building them… but that never happened. Unless he wants to lose a large chunk of credibility, Nocturna needs to turn up in the “Unknowns” arc, or the “Futures End” issue needs to be split between past and present.

Batman 66 Green Hornet 6
Batman ’66 Meets the Green Hornet #6

FINAL ISSUE! A bomb falls from the sky, threatening the good people of Gotham City, and Batman and the Green Hornet have just one chance to take out this deadly threat. Meanwhile, Franco Bollo, the man whose stolen stamps started General Gumm and The Joker’s current crime spree, has himself been stolen. Will this enable the terrible twosome to fly away scot-free? Or will our heroes finally save the day?

Release Date: 11/5

It’s the final issue. I think I’m going to be a little sad. It’s like an additional issue of happiness each month is abandoning me right before Christmas!

Batman 66 Lost Episode
Batman ’66: The Lost Episode #1
During the original Batman television series run, legendary science-fiction writer Harlan Ellison turned in an outline for a story that would have introduced Two-Face. The story never made it to air, and Two-Face never entered the TV show’s Rogues Gallery. Now, “The Two-Way Crimes of Two-Face” is adapted to comics by two comic book legends: writer Len Wein and artist José Luis Garcia-Lopez. Also included in this special edition are Ellison’s original prose story outline and the complete, original pencils by Garcia-Lopez.

Release Date: 11/19

I… Can’t…. Wait… I desperately want to see what the ’66 version of Two Face is like! This JUST MIGHT top my list on the week that it comes out. Just saying…

Batman 66 17
Batman ’66 #17
Professor William McElroy has taken another blow to the head and once more believes himself to be the reincarnation of the Egyptian Pharaoh King Tut! This time he’s uncovered a virus associated with Osiris, Egyptian God of the Underworld, that will turn the citizens of Gotham City into zombies, ready to do his bidding – including eliminating Batman and Robin!

Release Date: 11/26

Batman Beyond 16
Batman Beyond Universe #16

After spending more time with his father in the Justice Lords timeline, Terry returns to his own world to discover that a member of the Bat-family has been kidnapped! But is it too late? Did Terry’s need to escape his own reality seal the fate of those closest to him?

Release Date: 11/26

I’m beginning to get more and more invested in this book! I love what Kyle Higgins has been doing with it, and I’m completely intrigued by Terry going back to the Justice Lords timeline to visit his dad. Brilliant. (Also, thank you to everyone who convinced me to pick up this title!)

Catwoman 36
Catwoman #36
“Family Business” part 2! Selina struggles to maintain her role as the leader of Gotham City’s crime families when…Catwoman attacks?

Release Date: 11/26

I want the cover of this issue as a poster on my wall! I don’t know much about this writer, and there hasn’t been too much talk about the book itself. I’m glad a new writer is getting the chance to dive into the comics scene!

Detective Comics 36
Detective Comics #36
In “Terminal” part 2, Batman’s efforts to stop a contagion at the Gotham Airport come crashing down!

Release Date: 11/5

I can’t help but think this is going to be a New 52, condensed version of “Contagion.” Am I the only one? This is only a 2 issue arc, but it could lead into a new arc.

Earth 2 28
Earth 2 #28
With the world around them on fire, the heroes of Earth 2 were met with the worst villains they’ve ever encountered: the Four Furies of Apokolips! But what shocking connection do Famine, Pestilence, Death and War share with the larger DC Universe? Find out here as their origins are revealed!

Release Date: 11/5

Release Date: 11/19

Earth 2: World’s End #8
Welcome John Constantine to the chaos and fire of Earth 2 – he’ll be right at home! Continued from this month’s CONSTANTINE #19.

Release Date: 11/26

I was let down by the previous issue of Earth 2, but I’m still extremely excited about what’s in store for us! I still believe that Earth 2, and Earth 2 World’s End will be two of the top titles when they’re released. It’s going to be one crazy ride! And Constantine! Get ready Sean! You’re going to be a busy, busy man!

Gotham Academy 2
Gotham Academy
#2
Olive joins the creepy Order of the Bat as an afterschool activity, and we learn more about her secret past!

Release Date: 11/5

The more I see and read about this book, the more excited I get. I was concerned it was going to be extremely juvenile, but it doesn’t look like that’s the case. And the art I’ve seen for this book looks fantastic! Kudos DC for trying something different.

Gotham Midnight 1
Gotham by Midnight #1
Strange doings are afoot in Gotham City! Look out, though – Jim Corrigan is on the case in this new series by writer Ray Fawkes (CONSTANTINE, BATMAN ETERNAL) and artist Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night, Ten Grand)!

Release Date: 11/26

Elena is a giddy, little goober for this book! You should’ve seen the e-mail chain when this title was announced, and we were trying to determine who was going to cover the title. Haha! Ask her how excited she is in the comments section! No, really… ask her!

Anyway, for those of you that don’t know, this is supposed to be a horror themed book that follows Jim Corrigan and the midnight shift of the GCPD. DC described it as Gotham’s answer to the X-Files! Spark your interest? It’s another new book that’s putting the spotlight on other members of Gotham. I’m all for expanding our list of relevant Gotham residents!

Grayson 4
Grayson #4
Grayson travels deeper into the organized chaos that is SPYRAL! Can he keep track of all the lies? Or will he fall apart once he can no longer tell fact from fiction?

Release Date: 11/5

I don’t care what the solicitation says, I just want the issue!!!

Harley Quinn 12
Harley Quinn #12
Harley’s over the moon about teaming up with the all-powerful Power Girl…but it won’t take X-ray vision for Power Girl to see that something’s not right with her new best bud!

Release Date: 11/19

I thought Power Girl was only going to show up for one issue, so I’m glad to see she’s sticking around. I can only imagine the crap that Harley will get her into!

Infinite Crisis 5

Release Date: 11/19

Injustice Year 3 3
Injustice: Gods Among Us Year Three #3

Release Date: 11/5
Injustice Year 3 4
Injustice: Gods Among Us Year Three
#4
In the recent uprisings against Superman, one of his allies has been conspicuously absent: the mystical being known as Raven. Find out what has become of her and what role Constantine has played in her absence.

Release Date: 11/19

If only I could be a fly on the wall when they’re developing and outlining this book… You’d hear a tiny, little fly saying things like, “StFU! That is epic!” or “You’re going to do what?” and possibly “I can’t take it anymore! You! Start drawing! Other you! Start writing! Now! Now! Pronto tonto!” … You get the picture. I clearly hate how amazing this book is!

Justice League 36
Justice League #36
“THE AMAZO VIRUS” continues! A bizarre disease has been unleashed, America has been quarantined and the whole world is at a stand still – but no one on the League may be more affected by this than Batman! What deadly secret about the League does the Amazo Virus hold? Where did it come from? Who unleashed it and why? And what does it mean for the future of the world’s greatest heroes?

Release Date: 11/19

I’m ready for this arc to begin. Despite enjoying the past few issues of JL, I feel like the book is in need of some direction. I’m also curious to see delve into these mysteries concerning the Amazo Virus.

JL 3000 11

Release Date: 11/5

Suicide Squad 4
New Suicide Squad #4
Outgunned and out of time, this could be the end for Harley, Deadshot and The Joker’s Daughter as they struggle to survive in Russia against Deathstroke!

Release Date: 11/12

New Suicide Squad appears to be telling a tight story. So far its essentially been the equivalent of a summer blockbuster in the fact that there hasn’t been much character depth, but it’s been enjoyable. And it’s done well. I’m hoping that the further we delve into this dilemma, the more interesting it will get.

Red Hood 36

Red Hood & the Outlaws #36
The Outlaws never thought things would look this bad, as Jason Todd gives in to his addiction to Venom in order to find the missing Starfire!

Release Date: 11/19

Having Jason in Batman Eternal has really spiked my interest in him again… I’ve been debating picking the title back up, and this might be a worthwhile arc to do so… Sean’s reviews of this title have been decent lately as well… Hmmm….

Secret Origins 7
Secret Origins #7
The parade of DC Universe origins continues with three favorites: Huntress, written by Paul Levitz with art by Jonboy Meyer; Superboy, written by Frank Barberi with art by Robson Rocha; and The Flash, written by Robert Venditti and Van Jensen with art by Andre Coehlo!

Release Date: 11/26

Teen Titans 4
Teen Titans #4
A major villain is revealed to be behind the new Teen Titans’ problems! You won’t believe what’s next!

Release Date: 11/19

I can’t wait for this series to get its stride and take off! The characters seem to be on point this time, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the first two issues. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – so far, this is the Teen Titans title we deserved at the beginning of the New 52.
