Upcoming Comics: September 10th, 2014

It’s week 2 of Future’s End! I know that the majority feel that these stories will be pointless, but I still feel that there are hints as to future plots in each one. Also, if they are nearly as good as last week’s Grayson: Futures End 1, then I don’t care if it leads to anything or not. That was a DAMN GOOD BOOK! (Batwing: Futures End 1… not so much.)

This week’s releases are listed in order of what I’m most excited to read, to what I’m least excited to read. For each title, I’ll include the official solicitation, the talent credits, more of my randomness, and the Batman News team member that will be covering each book. And of course, I (we) want to hear from you! Which titles are you picking up? What do you hope to see? And what are your thoughts about the order of my list? So, without further ado…

September 10th

Injustice Year Two 11
Injustice: Gods Among Us Year 2 #11
As Sinestro manipulates both friend and foe, Hal Jordan battles Guy Gardner and the showdown between Superman and Ganthet begins. It all builds to a final climax in this penultimate issue of Year Two!

Art by: Various, Bruno Redondo
Cover by: Jheremy Raapack
Written by: Tom Taylor

Random Blurb of Excitement: BUY THIS BOOK! CATCH UP! READ IT AGAIN! Whatever you have or haven’t done, JUST READ IT! (Josh McDonald was not paid for this advertisement, and no animals were harmed during typing).

Batman Eternal 23
Batman Eternal #23
Catwoman’s secret past has been revealed, and it’s dragging her toward Blackgate Penitentiary! What is her place in the natural order of crime? Only she can decide.

Art by: Derek Fridolfs, Dustin Nguyen
Cover by: Jason Fabok
Written by: Tim Seeley, Kyle Higgins, Ray Fawkes, James T Tynion IV, Scott Snyder

Random Blurb of Excitement: We’re finally getting to Selina! I expect her to be a major focus over the next few issues. Although, I do want to bring attention to something. Some of you have mentioned in the comments how they need to hurry up and get to this in Eternal due to the Catwoman change starting next month. Well, it turns out, starting in October, Catwoman (as well as other titles such as Batgirl) will start off after Batman Eternal… I HATE that! Can DC just stop getting ahead of themselves, and let a story play out? Sheesh.

Batman FE 1
Batman: Futures End #1
It’s five years later and Bruce Wayne is using dangerous science to help him continue his war on crime. What is it, and what forced Bruce to resort to such extremes?

Cover by: Jason Fabok
Inker Aco
Penciller Aco
Written by: Ray Fawkes, Scott Snyder

Random Blurb of Excitement: Since Scott Snyder is co-writing, I have high hopes that this issue will be pretty good, and will hopefully give some easter eggs for Batman Endgame.

Batman News Critic: Brandom

Batgirl FE 1
Batgirl: Futures End #1
It’s five years later, and Barbara Gordon has become Bête Noire – a.k.a. The Black Beast! Part Batman and part Bane, she leads a squad of female agents through the Gotham Underground!

Cover by: Clay Mann
Inker Javier Garron
Penciller Javier Garron
Written by: Gail Simone

Random Blurb of Excitement: I’m not going to lie, I’m REALLY excited for this book. No, not because Barbara Gordon ate Bane, or the fact that it’s taking place in the Gotham Underground, but because I want to know who those other three “Batigirls” are. Stephanie? Knightfall? Cassandra? Completely new characters that will do nothing exciting for this snap-shot issue? Who knows? This is also officially Gail Simone’s last issue of Batgirl… I’m kind of sad.

New Suicide Squad FE 1
New Suicide Squad: Futures End #1
Amanda Waller’s covert war against the United States reaches the boiling point as the Suicide Squad takes the White House!

Cover by: Jeremy Roberts
Inker Scott Hanna
Penciller Andre Coelho
Written by: Sean Ryan

Random Blurb of Excitement:  I’m honestly excited for this issue just to get a glimpse of what the state of the US Government will be like in five years. Also, what “secrets” will be revealed or hinted at for the direction of this book?

Batman News Critic: Josh

Worlds Finest FE 1
Worlds’ Finest: Futures End #1
Power Girl must break into Cadmus Island to free Huntress – but she ends up a prisoner herself!

Cover by: Tom Raney
Inker Paul Neary
Penciller Yildiray Cinar
Written by: Paul Levitz

Random Blurb of Excitement: Hmmm… The past couple of issues of Worlds’ Finest have been much better than the rest of the series. I’m not saying they were amazing, but they were at least enjoyable. I’ll be picking it up just because I love Huntress (even though this isn’t really Huntress in my opinion…)

Futures End 19
Futures End #19
It’s now or never for Batman Beyond and the heist team to make their move on TerrifiTech.

Art by: Scott Eaton, Drew Geraci
Cover by: Ryan Sook
Written by: Keith Giffen, Dan Jurgens, Jeff Lemire, Brian Azzarello

Random Blurb of Excitement: I’m soooooo close to picking this title back up. Last week’s review resulted in me pulling my hand back a little, but I’m still close to jumping back in…

Batman News Critic: Jesse

Birds FE 1
Birds of Prey: Futures End #1
Free of Ra’s al Ghul’s control at last, Black Canary claims her rightful place as the head of the League of Assassins!

Cover by: Dan Panosian
Inker Oclair Albert
Penciller Robson Rocha
Written by: Christy Marx

Random Blurb of Excitement: Umm… Yeah, this will probably be this week’s Batwing… just saying. I’ll let you know if I’m wrong, but Christy Marx is writing, so I don’t have high hopes.

Graphic Novel Watch:

Justice League of America Vol. 2: Survivors of Evil (Hardcover) – As the smoke clears from TRINITY WAR, one thing looks disturbingly clear: The members of the Justice League of America are dead, betrayed by one of their own. The key to their survival may lie in the hands of Despero! Don’t miss these stories from issues #8-14!

Justice League Vol. 4: The Grid (Softcover) – These amazing tales from JUSTICE LEAGUE #18-20 and 22-23 lead into “Trinity War,” and spotlight Cyborg, Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman! Plus: Learn the secret behind Pandora’s Box!

Justice League Vol. 5: Forever Heroes (Hardcover) – In these tales from JUSTICE LEAGUE #24-29, the Crime Syndicate hunts down the few heroes foolish enough to challenge them – including Dick Grayson! But Owlman has other plans for Nightwing…and Ultraman, too! Also, Cyborg is one of the last Justice League members left to fight against the villains that have taken over. How can he possibly find a way to defeat them? Who can he turn to? Two words: Metal Men!

Legends of the Dark Knight 100-Page Super Spectacular #4 – In ”I…Batman,” there’s a new face of crimefighting in Gotham City, but will this twisted creation do more harm than good? Next, a serial killer targets random citizens of Gotham for a fiery death, and the Dark Knight detects a pattern the police didn’t in “Ashes to Ashes.” Finally, in “Herded Limits,” when the Dark Knight foils the Riddler’s latest plot, Dr. Chase Meridian presents evidence that Edward Nigma isn’t clinically insane after all!
