How Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ inspired Ben Affleck for ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’

Though Ben Affleck is currently promoting David Fincher’s Gone Girl, the movie that everyone really wants to talk to him about is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice!

In an appearance on Live! with Kelly and Michael earlier this morning, Affleck revealed that he’s been looking at a couple of the members of The Avengers cast for inspiration when it comes to getting in shape to bring the Caped Crusader to the big screen on March 25th, 2016.

“I have been getting bigger, yeah”, he told the hosts. “I have been working out a lot. These are not roles that you can do and not exercise for. Audiences have now increasing expectations. Like, in the 50s, you could just be like Burt Lancaster and tall. That was ok, but now you see guys like Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans and all these guys whose bodies are just, you think, ‘How is that even possible?’ Exercising is as much a part of the job as the rest of it.”

Affleck has been spotted looking very buff recently, and the fact that he’s been aspiring to get in the same sort of shape as the two actors mentioned above is very good news, especially as both are in peak physical shape!

He then went on to recall a pretty amusing story about what happened when he asked Warner Bros. about possibly being allowed to take the Batsuit home when shooting concludes. “So I asked them, like, ‘What about maybe taking the suit home at the end of the thing?’ And they’re like, ‘For $100,000 you can.’ I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll just take a picture.’ A lot goes into it, there’s a lot of designers and as you see there, these movies have become a big deal. They spend a lot of money and the guy who did the suits did a very good job.”

In an interview with The Today Show, Affleck described the “new and interesting” way that Zack Snyder is handling Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and again addressed the very vocal response to him being cast from comic book fans and the internet in general. “You have all of this attention — some of it’s positive, some of it’s negative. I think, in the end, you make the movie and it either works or it doesn’t.”

Talking to The Detroit Free Press meanwhile, Affleck confirmed that Detroit is being used to shoot scenes which will be set in both Metropolis and Gotham City after praising the location and its residents. “There are things to be discouraged by here and there are things to be inspired by here. I find it really dynamic. There are parts that look like Metropolis and parts that look like Gotham City.”
