Upcoming Comics: February 4, 2015

In the wake of the Super Bowl, I would just like to say that had the NFL hired Batman, the Deflate Gate issue would be mute. He would’ve caught the culprit and put them in Blackgate … or… you know… NFL Prison. I actually didn’t watch the game due to a work project, but I recorded the game… so watch the commercials. No, I’m serious, I did. Now, if only there would’ve been a Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice teaser! Oh well, it gives us something to look forward to, right?

This week’s releases are listed in order of what I’m most excited to read, to what I’m least excited to read. For each title, I’ll include the official solicitation, the talent credits, more of my randomness, and the Batman News team member that will be covering each book. After that, you’ll find a poll for this week’s best cover! Should you have trouble picking one cover, no worries! The poll is open so you can select as many covers as you’d like. And of course, I (we) want to hear from you in the comments section! What titles are you picking up? What do you hope to see? And what are your thoughts about the order of my list? So, without further ado…

Grayson 7
Grayson #7
Grayson and Helena must battle their old foes, the Fist of Cain!

Art by: Mikel Janin
Cover by: Mikel Janin
Variant cover by: Dan Panosian
Written by: Tom King, Tim Seeley

Random Blurb of Excitement: Dick and Helena could feed a fish for an issue, and I’d still probably love it.

Detective Comics 39
Detective Comics #39
Can Batman put an end to Anarky once and for all? Or will the citizens of Gotham City even let him try?

Art by: Francis Manapul
Cover by: Francis Manapul
Variant cover by: Yuko Shimizu, Dave Johnson
Written by: Brian Buccellato, Francis Manapul

Random Blurb of Excitement: I’m really looking forward to see what the team has planned for us this week. Last month’s issue left me hooked!

Batman News Critic: Brandon

Eternal 44
Batman Eternal #44
One of the only people who knows what truly happened at Arkham Asylum is about to escape Gotham City…but not if Batman gets to him first!

Art by: Aco
Cover by: Ethan Van Sciver
Written by: Tim Seeley, Kyle Higgins, Ray Fawkes, James T Tynion IV, Scott Snyder

Random Blurb of Excitement: While we got some plot progression last week, I still feel like we’re not making much ground. And if I’m being honest, I’m liking Harper less and less with each issue. I also wasn’t that crazy about Stephanie either. Ultimately, I just feel like we’re focusing on the wrong things at the wrong time during Eternal. Not sure if that makes any sense… And since most of this sounds negative, I want to re-state that I think Eternal is one of the better books overall, but I don’t feel it’s living up to its own standards at the moment.

Earth 2 31
Earth 2 #31
Dr. Fate makes his powerful presence known on Apokolips!

Art by: Andy Smith
Cover by: Ken Lashley
Written by: Marguerite Bennett, Daniel H. Wilson

Random Blurb of Excitement: Dr. Fate has been MIA ever since he went crazy, so I’m excited to see him return. I know he’s been featured in Constantine lately, but I’m clueless as to what’s going on in that book…

Batman News Critic: Sean

Worlds End 18
Earth 2: Worlds End #18

As Apokolips burns, Green Lantern falls – and the Earth is left unprotected

Art by: Robson Rocha, Jack Herbert, Jorge Jimenez, Paulo Siqueira
Cover by: Guillem March
Written by: Mike Johnson, Marguerite Bennett, Daniel H. Wilson

Random Blurb of Excitement: I think Green Lantern’s theme song should be Tubthumping by Chumbawamba. Why? Cause he gets knocked down! But he gets up again! You’re never going to keep him down! (Yes, I really went there…) Anyway, if you’re keeping up with this title, I’m a little irritated that they’re introducing more new

Futures End 40
Futures End #40
All stories converge as Brainiac and the Blood Moon arrive at the Futures End!

Random Blurb of Excitement: There’s going to be a lot of Brainiac over the next few months… I hope you’re ready.

Notes:

  • Gotham Academy #5 has been pushed back to February 25th. Considering issue #4 was delayed a month, I’m not surprised to see this issue delayed as well. I also have a feeling that this issue just might get pushed back into March, but I hope it doesn’t.
  • Justice League 3000 #14 has been pushed back to February 11th.
  • Secret Six #2 & #3 – Well… issue #3 was supposed to release this week, but won’t come out until February 25th considering issue #2 isn’t being released until next week. I really, really hope this isn’t a sign of things to come…
  • It looks like Batman ’66 #19 and Injustice: Gods Among Us Year Three #8 weren’t released last week after all… so, if you don’t read these issues digitally, you can pick them up! Reviews for both issues are already up on the site.
