‘Gotham’ Season 2 will include the origins of Mr. Freeze, Clayface, and Mad Hatter

A couple of weeks ago the cast of Gotham officially wrapped up production on Season 1. The next season won’t begin until September, but the producers are already talking about it. Collider caught up with Gotham executive producer John Stephens at WonderCon this past weekend, and he revealed that Season 2 will include the origins of Mr. Freeze, Clayface, and Mad Hatter:

What new Batman characters will join the series in the not too distant future?

Per Stephens: “We always want to walk the fine line of the reality of our world. Walking right up to that line where super-villains live. So there are a lot of characters from Batman lore that fit that bill. People like Victor Freeze – who’s a science villain. You can play a lot of his abilities without going into the world of superheroes.”

“Clayface and Mad Hatter are both villains we’re going to bring in [as well]. They both have great backstories and great personalities. Clayface especially is a character I want to [explore the origin of].”

Stephens also said we’ll see a lot more development from David Mazouz’s Bruce Wayne in Season 2:

“That’s one of the fun things we’re looking forward to next year,” Stephens revealed “The Bruce Wayne we all know — there’s a duality to his persona. There’s ‘Batman’ and there’s ‘Bruce Wayne’. That fake playboy carefree Bruce Wayne [persona]. In season two, you’re going to start to see that ‘Bruce Wayne’ persona develop as he starts to create a public face to hide who he actually is. So we get to watch that schism take place.”

Gotham has been on a break but will return next Monday, April 13th.
