August 2015 Solicitations

Well… Convergence is over… I know I’m glad! How about you? Due to my fatigue with the event, I decided to spend the past two weeks catching up on some titles that I haven’t been reading (Gotham by MidnightJustice League United), researching characters that I’m not that familiar with (Midnighter), and catching up on titles that I was behind on (Injustice, Arkham Knight). Once you factor in me speed reading these titles, the sneak peeks that DC has been releasing, and these solicitations… I’m sooooooo glad we’re getting back to normal! So let’s get to what August has in store for us.

For the month of the August, DC will also release Bombshell themed variant covers. After all of the solicitations, you’ll see I’ve provided the variant cover for each of the books we cover, along with a nice Best Bombshell Variant Cover poll! Make sure you vote! The winners will be announced in next week’s Upcoming Comics post, and will be included in their quarterly Best Cover poll.

Alright, if you’re still with me, below you’ll find the solicitations for each issue, as well as the cover art (if DC has released it).  As a reminder, I’m not putting the talent credits in this post because there’s already a ton of information here. But you know me… I can’t post anything without adding my two cents, so you’ll see some of my randomness for a few titles. Make sure you give me a piece of your mind in the comments as well! I want to hear what you’re excited about, worried about, your predictions, etc… If you have something to say, I want to know! And in case it’s not understood, there are spoilers below.

August 5th

Bat-Mite 3
Bat-Mite #3
Bat-Mite and Robin! It had to happen…even if Damian fights it every step of the way! Does Bat-Mite really believe that Batman’s son will welcome his efforts to coach him? Sadly, yes. Say hello to crime fighting’s new Dysfunctional Duo.

I don’t plan on reading this title unless the reviews are stellar, but I might have to pick up this issue. Might.

Batman Beyond 3
Batman Beyond #3
The world starts to give up on its new Batman as the secret of the cyborg Justice League is revealed. Plus, Brother Eye takes both a giant leap and one small step toward bringing down the final stronghold of humanity: Neo-Gotham.

Now that DC has confirmed that this is TimI can’t wait to read it! Hopefully they justify the character, because poor Tim has been abused since the New 52 launched.

Detective Comics 43
Detective Comics #43
Batman and his new team are after a band of thieves in Gotham City—but they’re about to develop a new weapon that will make them much harder to stop!

It looks like there’s a new creative team in the works for this title. If you’re a fan of this team, I’d advise you enjoy them while you can. Nothing official has been announced, but it looks like a certain thing.  That being said, I’m not too sure how much I’m going to enjoy this arc. I think most of the Bat titles are going to spend a decent amount of time dealing with the new Batman, so I doubt there will be much of a focus on another story. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how it goes.

Injustice 4 7
Injustice: Gods Among Us Year 4 #7
It’s a family feud years in the making, and raised to a devastating level, as a superpowered Batman and Robin engage in an earth-shaking battle. Meanwhile, Wonder Woman takes on Hercules, Shazam battles everyone, and even Zeus enters the fray!

Justice League of America #3
Churches of Rao are being built all over the world. A new world religion has appeared seemingly overnight. Sick people are healed. The world suddenly knows peace. So what’s wrong with this picture? The Justice League is about to violently find out.

JL Gods & Monsters Wonder Woman
Justice League: Gods & Monsters: Wonder Woman #1
Prequel to the DC Universe movie Justice League: Gods & Monsters!

Earth in the 1960s—where a woman-warrior from a faraway world finds herself among a group of young idealists, seeking peace and love in a time of turbulence and upheaval. But Bekka of the New Gods finds her Aquarian dream abruptly shattered when she encounters the monstrous genius of Doctor Psycho and the Shock Exchange!

Midnighter 3
Midnighter #3
Midnighter’s up against Multiplex, the man with the power of infinite self-replication—in other words, all his dreams are coming true! Infinite clones mean infinite bones to break…

After picking up the previous Midnighter series, I’m definitely more excited for this series! I’m hoping this book delivers as well, especially since it has such strong ties to Grayson and Spyral.

August 12th

Batman 43
Batman #43

In the start of a new epic, a new villain stalks Gotham City. Will Batman be able to uncover the mystery of Mr. Bloom?

Mr. Bloom? Really? I’m starting to question this team more and more… Sometimes being reigned in is a good thing…

Batman Superman 23Batman/ Superman #23
“Truth” continues as Superman must learn to depend on the new Batman’s help—but can he trust him?

I don’t usually get excited about Superman stories, but for some reason, this one is really catching my attention. I’m probably going to be all over Truth like white on rice.

Catwoman 43
Catwoman #43
While Selina investigates the mystery of whatever happened to Batman, Spoiler finds a mentor in Eiko. Plus: Antonia makes a dangerous bargain.

It looks like Steph is going to have a home in Catwoman. I was curious where they would put her after Eternal, and considering the events of that story, it makes sense that she’ll continue to pop up in this book. I’m also looking forward to seeing the growth of the supporting characters in this book. There’s so much potential, and I’d love to see this book really catch on now that Selina is back in the cat suit!

Bombshells 1
DC Comics Bombshells #1
The ultra-popular statues from DC Collectibles come to life in their own ongoing comic book series! Learn the story behind this alternate reality where the Second World War is fought by superpowered women on the front lines and behind the scenes! It all begins with the stories of Batwoman, Wonder Woman and Supergirl.

Earth 2 Society 3
Earth 2 Society #3
The utopic society of Earth-2 begins to show cracks as the new world reacts to the assassination plot that’s left a huge power vacuum on the planet. Which hero can step up to fill the void?

Gotham Academy 9
Gotham Academy #9
If the gang thought it was hard to keep up with their homework before, now there’s a werewolf on campus at Gotham Academy! Talk about distractions!

Harley 19
Harley Quinn #19
Harley’s finding out just how hard it is to be the boss! She’s finally ready to put her love life first—if only the Gang of Harleys would let her have a moment’s rest!

JL Gods & Monsters 1
Justice League: Gods & Monsters #1
Prequel to the DC Universe movie Justice League: Gods & Monsters! Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman: three powerful and dangerous loners, drawn together by a man who claims he can bring humanity to the next level of evolution. But are Jackson Alpert and his immortal Forever People what they claim to be? Will they save the Earth—or conquer it?

JLU 12
Justice League United #12
A mission to save our world from cosmic calamity has separated Swamp Thing from the Green, threatening to destroy him forever. Only an improbable team of heroes and villains, led by Poison Ivy, can traverse conflicting realities and save Earth’s plant elemental from non-existence.

Hmmm Poison Ivy is leading the team… Let’s see how this turns out. I wasn’t a fan of Ivy when she was part of the Birds of Prey because it just felt like an odd fit… but this team seems to make more sense!

New Suicide Squad 11
New Suicide Squad #11
An extremist offshoot of the League of Assassins has taken what was once a shadow war into broad daylight, attacking a crucial energy concern with a view to trading power for super-weapons of mass destruction. It’s up to new “recruits” Deadshot, Boomerang and Manta to save the world without blowing their cover.

Red Hood 3
Red Hood/ Arsenal #3
Red Hood and Arsenal are open for business! After working for the mysterious Tara Battleworth as on-staff outlaws, Roy and Jason have decided to branch out on their own as freelance problem solvers, investigators, and general butt-kicking specialists. But when the sinister corporate scourge of Underbelly rears its ugly head, can our heroes overcome pure evil and corruption made manifest?

I was completely on board to give this book a shot… until I read the sneak peek. Unfortunately, that sealed this books fate for me. It looks like the same crap that it was before. And what’s up with Jason’s new costume? It looks terrible!

August 19th

Batman Arkham Knight 7
Batman Arkham Knight #7
After narrowly escaping death during his battle with Bane, a battered and bloodied Batman crosses paths with a kid from Gotham City, and changes the course of his life forever. Meanwhile, the Scarecrow begins to gather his forces…

I’m loving this book! If you’re not reading it, I recommend that you do so! On a side note, there wasn’t a solicitation for Genesis, so I’m not sure what’s going on with that mini-series…

Black Canary 3
Black Canary #3
Black Canary’s worst nightmare has come true: child prodigy Ditto has been kidnapped! But the perp isn’t your average criminal mastermind…

Harley Powergirl 3
Harley Quinn & Powergirl #3
Power Girl and Vartox are finally face-to-face…unfortunately, it’s the terrifying Dark Vartox, corrupted by an ancient cosmic evil! And good lord, what has it done to his nipples?!

Injustice 4 8
Injustice: Gods Among Us Year 4 #8
The tables have been turned, and now Superman himself has been driven underground…way underground. Ares directs the Man of Steel to Hades, where he assures Superman some assistance will be found. Back on the surface world, Wonder Woman confronts Batman, and up on Olympus, Harley tries bonding with Queen Hippolyta—we’ll see how well that goes.

Justice Leage 43
Justice League #43
“The Darkseid War” event rages on as Batman takes a dark journey into the depths of Godhood and unlocks the forbidden knowledge of the DC universe! Meanwhile, arch-enemies Superman and Lex Luthor must stand together in order to survive, and Wonder Woman leads the Justice League in an offensive against the Anti-Monitor and Darkseid! But what is Grail’s true mission during this war-—and what is the secret she holds over Wonder Woman?

Batman… Godhood… I’m down! Let’s hurry up and get this issue out!

Justice League: Gods & Monsters #2
Prequel to the DC Universe movie Justice League: Gods & Monsters! The Forever People are at war—with humanity and with each other. The only hope of defeating them lies with Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman—and they may be more dangerous than the immortal warriors they’re trying to stop!

Robin 3
Robin: Son of Batman #3
Robin and Nobody II team up to take on another mission from the Year of Blood.

I can’t decided if I like or hate the whole Nobody II approach… I’m just hoping they don’t mess up Damian in this book.

Secret Six 5
Secret Six #5
After the initial attack on Big Shot’s home (and the shocking revelation of one member’s true identity), the team’s suburban retreat has been exposed. As the team starts to fracture, this highly dysfunctional band of outcasts prepares for the next strike from Mockingbird!

Teen Titans Go 11
Teen Titans Go! #11
Cyborg grows his very first mustache! But are the rest of the Titans ready for Cyborg’s newfound manliness?

August 26th

Batgirl 43
Batgirl #43
Tech genius Luke Fox has brought his startup to Burnside, and he seems to be hiring all of Barbara’s friends…but not her! Unfortunately, someone else is setting up shop in Burnside as well…the mysterious Velvet Tiger!

It looks like Luke might find a semi-permanent home on Batgirl, and I’m ok with that. I think these two have a lot in common, and will complement each other well. Hopefully he sticks around now that Dinah has her own book.

Batman 66 26
Batman ’66 #26
Can it be? Is Louie the Lilac really pushing up daisies? Batman’s investigation of the criminal’s apparent demise leads him to the abandoned Isley Nursery. But it’s a floral trap that awaits the Dynamic Duo as they encounter a new villainess, the one and only Poison Ivy!

’66 Poison Ivy? Hell yeah!!!

Gotham by Midnight
Gotham by Midnight #8
Two of Gotham City’s top news anchors seem to be swaying the minds of the public with sinister supernatural intentions.

I LOVE this cover. I really enjoyed reading this book, but I wasn’t crazy about the art, so I’m looking forward to having a new artist on this book.

Grayson 11
Grayson #11
It’s Grayson versus…Grayson? To save Agent 1, Dick must face his most dangerous enemy yet: himself.

Hmmm… Shape-shifter, or is Dick just facing a mental challenge?

Harley Road Trip 1
Harley Quinn: Road Trip Special #1
It’s the great American summer tradition, but you’ve never seen a road trip quite like this before! Harley, Ivy, and Catwoman are burning rubber across the U.S. of A! We recommend you all stay off the roads for the month of August, just to be safe.

JL 3001 3
Justice League 3001 #3
It’s the Super-Buddies versus Giant Turtle Olsen starring in…Who the hell cares what it’s called? It’s Giant Turtle Olsen! You are so welcome. Oh, and the Justice League will show up too. I mean, it being their book and all…And hey, did we mention Giant Turtle Olsen?

Justice League: Gods & Monsters #3
Prequel to the DC Universe movie Justice League: Gods & Monsters! He calls himself Imperiex, the final step in humanity’s evolution, and his first order of business is annihilating Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Will these three headstrong heroes learn to work together—or will the Justice League’s first mission be its last?

Teen Titans 11
Teen Titans #11
Red Robin draws closer to proving Superboy’s innocence! But with the Titans trapped behind bars, in a prison built to house superpowered criminals, how will the truth ever be revealed?

Teen Titans has finally hit its stride, and I’m greatly looking forward to what this book has in store! If you’re not reading it, I’d recommend you take the time to catch up.

We Are Robin 3
We Are Robin #3
The Robins finally meet Batman himself…but is it everything they imagined it would be? And what will the Dark Knight think of them?

The more I find out about this book, the more I want to read it! I’m crossing my fingers… and my toes…
