Jai Courtney talks ‘Suicide Squad’ set photos and Jared Leto’s method approach to The Joker (video)

Jai Courtney took a break from shooting Suicide Squad to promote his new movie Terminator: Genisys, and naturally Suicide Squad is what MTV wanted to talk about.

Courtney commented on the set photos that were released online, and said that they all expected it. It’s the reason why they put out an official photo right before they started filming. We can also thank Shia LaBeouf for Courtney taking the role of Captain Boomerang. No, he didn’t scream “just do it!”, but the two were on a road trip and LaBeouf raved about director David Ayer, who he had worked with on Fury. Courtney said he’d never do a comic book movie, but after a short Skype call with Ayer, he was hooked!

Courtney also spoke about the pressure that Jared Leto is under to play an iconic character like The Joker. Check out more in the video above. There’s also some comments that didn’t make the video, but were included in MTV’s article specifically about Jared Leto’s Joker. It seems like Leto is in character 24/7…

But has Jared gone method? “Sort of,” he added. “I don’t know how you measure that these days. I haven’t seen him, since we started working, out-of-character, let’s put it that way.”

In the meantime, Courtney’s schedule will continue to be pretty brutal as he films the movie. “We’ve been doing nights for the best part of a couple months. It’s been wild, dude. [We’ve got] ‘til the end of August, so we’ve got a while.”
