The PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight had so many bugs and performance issues that Warner Bros. was forced to suspend sales shortly after its release. According to a new report from popular gaming site Kotaku, they knew about these PC issues for months.

“I will say that it’s pretty rich for WB to act like they had no idea the game was in such a horrible state,” said one quality assurance tester who worked on the game for years. “It’s been like this for months and all the problems we see now were the exact same, unchanged, almost a year ago.”

Kotaku spoke to two other sources who backed up that claim, and said that Warner Bros. chose to ship the PC version even though they knew about all of the problems because they felt it was “good enough”.

Warner Bros. issued a patch to address some minor PC glitches earlier this week, but noted that there was still “significant” work to be done before they’d make the game available for purchase again.

“Getting it to work on consoles was impossible for months,” said Kotaku’s tester source. “That’s part of why the game got delayed so many times, they were totally unprepared for how hard it was on next-gen consoles.”

There was clearly something wrong during the development process. Batman: Arkham Knight was originally scheduled for an October 2014 release, before being delayed until June 2, 2015. The game was then delayed a for a second time, and came out last week on June 23. If the Kotaku’s sources are correct, it sounds like they didn’t learn their lesson with Batman: Arkham Origins, another Batman game that had a laundry list of issues when it was released in the fall of 2013.
