In May we heard that Chris Pine was in talks to play Steve Trevor in 2017’s Wonder Woman, and now The Wrap is reporting the it’s a done deal. Naturally, the deal includes sequel options as well, The Wrap says.
Fans had speculated that Pine was actually up for the role of Hal Jordan, aka the Green Lantern, but today’s news confirms he’ll be playing Wonder Woman’s love interest Steve Trevor.
In the comics, Steve Trevor was an intelligence officer in the United States Army during World War II whose plane crashed on Paradise Island, the isolated homeland of the Amazons. He was nursed back to health by the Amazon princess Diana, who fell in love with him and followed him when he returned to the outside world. There she became Wonder Woman (and also his co-worker, Diana Prince).
Wonder Woman is being directed by Patty Jenkins and hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
