We are gathered here today to mourn the cancelation of three books we cover from DC’s current roster: Batman ‘66, Gotham by Midnight, and Justice League United. Sad, sad day! Batman ’66 was the biggest shock for me, but for those of you that are super bummed about this particular title will be happy to know that a Batman ’66 team up book will launch in December. As for Gotham by Midnight and JLU, we will unfortunately see the last of them at the end of the year. There’s also a creative shift with Catwoman (Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!) with Valentine, Messina, and Loughridge leaving, and Frank Tieri (who happened to check out my LinkedIn this week) and Inaki Miranda.
Other titles that DC cancelled were Lobo, Doomed (which is apparently doing so poorly that it doesn’t even get a December release), and Tom King’s critically acclaimed Omega Men. Surprisingly, the fan uproar around Omega Men was so overwhelming that Dan Didio and Jim Lee have decided to give the book a 12 issue run, having it end in May of 2016 instead of in December with issue #7. So… If you ever get really unhappy about a cancellation, rally together to protest it!
In other, more positive news, we will receive some new titles this month, including the Batman/ Ninja Turtles crossover we announced back in July. Two titles that have yet to show up yet though are Poison Ivy and Katana. Both books were announced at SDCC with the titles that are being released in November/ December of this year, but they’ve been absent from solicitations. Hopefully we’ll get some news on those titles for January.
For the month of the December, DC will also release Harley’s Little Black Book themed variant covers. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the variant covers anywhere online, so we’ll have to provide that poll another time.
