Upcoming Comics: October 28, 2015

Hello all! The time has come for me to deliver bad news yet again… Our little Snyder, Sean, has decided to step down from his duties here at Batman-News.com. We’re sad to see him go, and he’ll definitely be missed. Make sure you give him a proper send-off in the comments section. We all do this for free, and on our own time, so he deserves every nice thing you can say! But as they say in show business, “The show must go on.” I will temporarily cover Sean’s books until we decide how to move forward. And as always, once decisions are made, we’ll make sure we fill you guys in.

This week’s releases are listed in order of what I’m most excited to read, to what I’m least excited to read. For each title, I’ll include the official solicitation, the talent credits, more of my randomness, and the Batman News team member that will be reviewing each book. After that, you’ll find a poll for this week’s best cover! Should you have trouble picking one cover, no worries! The poll is open so you can select as many covers as you’d like. Then, as always, you’ll find graphic novels scheduled for release this week, along with their cover as well (note: graphic novel covers will not be included in the poll for best cover). And of course, I (we) want to hear from you in the comments section! What titles are you picking up? What do you hope to see? And what are your thoughts about the order of my list? So, without further ado…

Grayson 13
Grayson #13
Back on the job at Spyral, Dick now has a mission all his own: find out more about Agent Zero. What could this mysterious shadow leader want with Agent 37?

Written by Tom King
Pencils and Inks by Mikel Janin
Colored by Jeremy Cox
Cover by Mikel Janin

Random Blurb of Excitement: I love this book… What do you want me to say?  Each issue dives a little deeper into the rabbit hole, and I’m sure we’re bound to get quite a bit of info since this features Agent Zero!

Batman-News Critic: Jay

BR Eternal 4
Batman & Robin Eternal #4
Mother’s sleeper agents are after Bruce Wayne! And one of those sleeper agents might be right by Grayson’s side!

Written by Steve Orlando, Scott Snyder, and James Tynion IV
Pencils by Scot Eaton
Inks by Wayne Faucher
Colored by Gabe Eltaeb
Cover by Tony Salvador Daniel, Sandu Florea, Tomeu Morey

Random Blurb of Excitement: Steve Orlando takes writing credits on this one! I’m anxious to see how he settles into this world, and the voice he gives some of these characters. Batman & Robin Eternal hasn’t been as good as it was in its first issue, but the book is still far from bad! I’ve been really happy with what they’re doing with the characters, Cassandra has been awesome, and I haven’t minded Harper! I consider that a win!

Gotham By Midnight 10
Gotham by Midnight #10
After the shocking ending of the Internal Affairs investigation into the Midnight Shift, Drake and Corrigan find themselves on the run from the GCPD! Can Corrigan face The Spectre once and for all in order to save Drake…and all of Gotham City?

Written by Ray Fawkes
Pencils, Inks, and Colors by Juan E. Ferreyra
Cover by Bill Sienkiewicz

Random Blurb of Excitement: I’m really sad to see this book come to a close, and considering how the previous issue ended, I’m on the edge of my seat with anticipation! This is an amazing book that is coming to a close way too early. In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy it while I can.

JL Gods and Men - Batman 1
Justice League: Gods & Men – Batman #1
As the Darkseid War rages on, Batman’s role in Gotham City-—and the world—alters drastically as he’s forced to accept his new role as a God of Knowledge.

Written by Peter J. Tomasi
Pencils by Fernando Pasarin
Inks by Matt Ryan
Colored by Gabe Eltaeb
Cover by Francis Manapul

Random Blurb of Excitement: This could be really good, or really bad! This one-shot also sets the tone for all of the one-shots that follow, so I’m hoping for a strong delivery, and a good sign of what’s to come.

Batman-News Critic: Terry

Batman 66 28
Batman ’66 #28
Two new additions to the ’66 Rogues Gallery are introduced in two stories. The Scarecrow is here to say “boo” to the good citizens of Gotham City, and to chase off the Caped Crusader. Then, a former henchman of King Tut has taken on a green, scaly look and roams the sewers under the city streets!

Art by Dean Haspiel and Lukas Ketner
Cover by Mike Allred
Written by Jeff Parker

Random Blurb of Excitement: I’m really curious to see how the creative team portrays these Rogues! I’ve greatly enjoyed seeing this book expand on characters we know and love, and transform them to fit the tone of Batman ’66.

Robin 5
Robin, Son of Batman
Damian, Mya, and Goliath are attacked by the mysterious faction known as the Lu’un Darga, and dragged deep inside the earth where they find—Talia al Ghul?! How will Damian face the mother who betrayed him?

Written by Patrick Gleason
Pencils by Patrick Gleason
Inks by Mick Gray
Colored by John Kalisz
Cover by Patrick Gleason, Mick Gray, and John Kalisz

Random Blurb of Excitement: Look, I’m not going to lie, the one thing I’m really looking forward to with this book is Damian rebuilding his relationship with Bruce… you know… once Bruce gets his memories back. This issue features Talia, and this should be really good in its own right.

Batman-News Critic: Terry

Deathstroke 11
Deathstroke #11
It’s the Suicide Squad vs. Deathstroke! He’s battled gods, slain his enemies, and even sacrificed parts of himself he never thought he could live without! But Deathstroke’s biggest challenge still lays ahead, and if he wants to succeed he’ll need to defeat the assembled might of the Suicide Squad! Will this be his chance to get back at Harley Quinn after their previous battle?

Written by James Bonny and Tony Salvador Daniel
Pencils by Tyler Kirkham
Inks by Sandu Florea and Tyler Kirkham
Colored by Tomeu Morey and Arif Prianto
Cover by Tony Salvador Daniel, Sandu Florea, and Tomeu Morey

Random Blurb of Excitement: Some new creative talents are jumping in on this book – I assume it’s due to Daniel’s involvement on Batman & Robin Eternal – so that leaves a big, fat question mark on this book. Regardless, it’s featuring the Suicide Squad, and I have to believe this will be better than Sean Ryan’s collective work.

We Are Robin 5
We Are Robin #5
Some of the Robins are ready to return to the streets, but others aren’t putting the “R” back on until they knows who’s pulling the strings behind The Nest. Meanwhile, a new player takes interest in the Robins. Will they all be united or pulled apart forever?

Written by Lee Bermejo
Pencils and Inks by Jorge Corona
Cover by Lee Bermejo

Random Blurb of Excitement: Last month’s issue was a big let-down! Hopefully this month moves the book in a better direction. If it doesn’t, I’m going to be really nervous about Robin War once it hits…

Batman-News Critic: Brandon

Justice League 3001 5
Justice League 3001 #5
There’s a new Batman in town—and the real Batman takes it upon himself to seek this imposter out. Plus, a new threat approaches our galaxy. Will the Justice League be prepared for it?

Written by J.M. DeMatteis and Keith Giffen
Pencils and Inks by Howard Porter
Colored by Hi-Fi
Cover by Hi-Fi and Howard Porter

Random Blurb of Excitement: So… I’m going to cover this book this month… I’m hoping for something that’s more than mediocre… Hoping!

Batman-News Critic: Josh

Batgirl 45
Batgirl #45
As Barbara’s friends gather for a major celebration, a familiar face from her past returns…and he’s got a lot to say about their future together!

Written by Brenden Fletcher and Cameron Stewart
Pencils by Babs Tarr
Colored by Serge Lapointe
Cover by Babs Tarr

Random Blurb of Excitement: Can we just pretend like this isn’t happening? Please? At least under this team?

Batman-News Critic: Elena

Suicide Squad 13
New Suicide Squad #13
A new story begins! Task Force X has been sent to Rio de Janeiro to stop the manufacture of a super-drug that gives its users uncontrollable and deadly powers. Leading the team on this suicide mission is new field commander…Amanda Waller?

Written by Sean
Pencils and Inks by Phil Briones
Cover by Juan Ferreyra

Random Blurb of Excitement: I know Sean Ryan ended on a high note with the last arc (for him anyway), but I’m NOT looking forward to this arc. I don’t think I’ve liked anything he’s written for Amanda Waller, and now she is going to be featured more prominently… I’m preparing myself for the worst.
