Back in May, Matthew McConaughey revealed that he had been reading scripts from both Marvel and DC Comics. Today, Variety reported that McConaughey turned down the lead villain role in Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Marvel and Gunn wanted Matthew McConaughey to play the villain in the superhero sequel, but the actor recently passed, leaving the search for that part still in progress.
Could this mean that McConaughey has his eyes set on joining Warner Bros. and their new DC Extended Universe? Yes! But it’s also possible that he didn’t like the scripts that he read for either comic book movie studio.
Fans have hoped McConaughey would join the DCEU, with the role of Green Lantern thrown around often. After all, that is the last major Justice League role that needs to be cast. We don’t know if McConaughey will come over to DC, but the fact that he’s still a free agent leaves the door open.
