‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ just broke a record set by ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has racked up over $50 million in advanced ticket sales. Not bad for a movie that isn’t even out yet! That’s more than double the previous record, which was set in 2012 by Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. That movie generated $25 million in advanced ticket sales.

The Hollywood Reporter says that IMAX accounts for a third of all advanced Star Wars: The Force Awakens tickets sold so far.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Star Wars: The Force Awakens were both shooting at around the same time in 2014. Directors Zack Snyder and J.J. Abrams had a little fun with each other, posting things like Superman dressed as a Sith, Stormtroopers stealing the Batmobile, and the Millennium Falcon taking on the Batmobile.
