‘Batman v Superman’ breaks records with massive opening weekend

The bad reviews from critics didn’t stop Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice from having a massive opening weekend. It made $166.1 million in North America, which is the biggest March opening ever, and makes it the 7th biggest domestic opening weekend of all-time!

“This sets us up well,” said Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. distribution executive vice president. “We’re very proud of what we’ve made before in the DC world and what’s coming in front of us is really exciting.”

Thanks to opening in China on day one, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is the biggest global superhero opening of all-time! It has already made $420.1 million worldwide.

Update 3/28/16: Warner Bros. has released official numbers and they are $4 million less than what was previously reported. The figures in this article have been updated to reflect that.
