David Ayer wants ‘Suicide Squad 2’ to be rated R

Director David Ayer is known for his hard, gritty, R-rated movies, but he knew he’d be stepping into the world of PG-13 superheroes when he signed on for Suicide Squad.

“For an R movie, you have to decide to do it right out the gate, and that was never the case here,” Ayer told MTV at CinemaCon. “We were always going to hit the PG-13 rating. But the film is meant to be that. It’s got edge, and it’s got attitude. And it’s got its own voice… There’s a lot in the film that’s going to surprise people.”

When asked if he’d consider an R-rated Suicide Squad sequel, Ayer replied “it would be worth lobbying for.”

Warner Bros. has showed that it’s not completely against R-rated Batman movies. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is getting an R-rated director’s cut, and it was just announced that the Batman: The Killing Joke animated movie will be rated R as well.
