In a new interview with Digital Spy, Russell Crowe confirmed what a lot of fans have assumed over the years… Man of Steel was building towards a Superman trilogy. Crowe said that returning for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was never discussed, and then went on to say what he understood the original plan to be.
“Originally — I could be completely wrong — I think there was a number of Superman movies. But I think they made the decision to jump past those and go to the idea of Batman and Superman in the same film. So, no, I didn’t have any discussions about that at all.”
Crowe played Superman’s alien dad, Jor-El, and likely signed on for multiple movies, which is how he’d be privy to future plans for the character. After Man of Steel’s disappointing box office results, plans changed, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League were born.
In October 2014, Warner Bros. said they’d be making a new solo Superman movie, but we haven’t heard a thing about it since. It isn’t on the current DC movie slate either. Is another Superman movie something you hope to see in this ever growing DC Films universe? Let me know in the comments below.
