The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises were both partially shot in IMAX, and when they were released on Blu-ray the aspect ratio would switch during those IMAX scenes. The black bars would go away, and your TV would be consumed by the large image format. You didn’t get the entire IMAX image (a home television can’t display that without putting bars on the left and right of the screen), but you still got more picture than usual.
Since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was partially shot in IMAX, many fans were hoping for the same effect when they put in the Blu-ray on July 19th. Unfortunately that’s not happening. The standard 2.40:1 aspect ratio will be maintained throughout the movie. Cinematographer Larry Fong confirmed the news on Twitter.
Sadly, no (not my decision).

Are you disappointed to hear that there won’t be aspect ratio switching IMAX scenes, or did you find them distracting in Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies? Let me know in the comments below.
