Last night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Colbert reported on the new $5.5 billion dollar Disneyland that was built in China. A huge cross-cultural moment! “Now that Disneyland is in China, the children will have context for the toys they’ve been making,” Colbert joked.
However, a lot of the Disney names don’t translate well into Chinese, so they had to make some changes. For example, Dumbo is “Little Flying Elephant” in China.
Colbert decided to have some fun with this concept. Since The Late Show is broadcast all over the world, he shared some changes they had to make for international audiences.
So what’s the international translation for the upcoming movie Suicide Squad? “Mopey Avengers go to Hot Topic,” Colbert joked. You can watch the full video above.
Update: Speaking of Hot Topic, they just launched a Suicide Squad collection with replica clothing from the movie!
