‘Suicide Squad’ concept art shows different looks for Harley Quinn

The Comic-Con issue of Entertainment Weekly featured a big story with new images of Gal Gadot from Wonder Woman, but it also had a little piece on Suicide Squad too.

In the image above, we get a look at Harley Quinn concept art that shows two different costumes Margot Robbie could have worn. EW caught up with Suicide Squad costume designer Kate Hawley to talk more about Harley’s look.

Hawley said she got the idea for Harley’s costumes by looking at Instagram accounts of Mexican drug cartels and the attire that rock and roll icons like Debbie Harry, Courtney Love, and Patti Smith wore.

Harley’s sex appeal came from her own sense of style, she didn’t dress sexy to impress The Joker or anyone else for that matter. “She’s a girl’s hero,” Hawley said. “It was understanding how do we make her feel sexy by owning it as opposed to what a man thinks is sexy.”

The concept art in the right (above) looks like something Harley Quinn would wear in the New 52 comics or the Batman: Arkham video games. What we ended up getting for the movie is a mix between the two. Harley wears a ripped t-shirt, rather than a revealing top.

SUICIDE SQUAD

Are you happy with the final choice they made for Suicide Squad, or do you hope we get to see one of the concept art outfits make an appearance too? Let me know in the comments below.
